Wimbledon Women’s Singles SF
Venus Williams, Johanna Konta, Garbiñe Muguruza and Magdalena Rybarikova: all these four are just a step away to the Wimbledon final where they will have a chance to hoist the holy grail of tennis.
Few sports betting experts could have predicted this lineup, but these remaining ladies did well to defy betting odds and make their way to this stage. And as they fight for the last two spots, one can expect an exciting live betting semi-final for the ages.
Garbiñe Muguruza vs Magdalena Rybarikova
It has been a fairytale run for first-time semi-finalist Rybarikova and she is undoubtedly poised to make her first-ever Grand Slam appearance.
The Slovakian has been exceptional in this competition, hitting the ball with great pace and proving that she’s tough to beat when she’s not making unforced errors. Her combined 47 break chances in five matches also speak volume of how sharp she has been with her return game.
Muguruza, of course, may prove too strong an opponent in the semi-final. After all, she did beat seventh seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets in the quarterfinals.
Not to mention her credentials on the big occasions, reaching the Wimbledon final in 2015 and winning the French Open last year. She’s also 2-0 in Grand Slam semi-final appearances.
However, it shouldn’t help the Spaniard that she doesn’t like playing on this surface and that Rybarikova beat her in their last meeting in 2015, also on grass.
I think this will be a close affair that could end in a thriller, but I like the chances of Rybarikova winning on Asian Handicap +1.50 @ 1.83.
Johanna Konta vs Venus Williams
Venus failed to reach last year’s final, but with no Kerber and Serena in sight, the 37-year-old has all the chance to reach her first Wimbledon final since 2009.
That’s not to say that Venus just got lucky on her way here. In fact, she continues to defy her age as she quickly climbs the women’s ranking once again. She has also been particularly dominant with her serve, winning an incredible 81.9 percent of her first serve points in her last three matches – proof that she’s at her best when playing at the All England Club.
On the other hand, Konta will be backed by the home crowd expecting another Brit to succeed, and she will enter the semi-finals in peak form after beating Simona Halep in a three-set comeback victory.
The British No.1 will also be confident as she leads the head-to-head standings against Venus, 3-2.
As the No.7 ranked player in the World, Konta should be able to make life hard for her American opponent. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old has never been this far at Wimbledon, and I think the difference in experience will be the deciding factor in this game.
With that said, choosing Venus on Money Line Odds that pay at 2.02 is the best move.
