Ireland Rugby Giants prepare to do Battle

A brilliant set of games last week gave us some big rugby results in the Guinness Pro12 which leaves Leinster and Munster fighting it out for the top spot as we move on to Round 20.

Betting odds of 1.90 and 2.00 on a title win suggest it’s a two-horse race, although the Ospreys are still just about hanging on at 8.50.

ROUND 20 SATURDAY:

Glasgow Warriors vs Zebre

Black Saturday’s offering gives Glasgow a chance to erase the memory of last week’s fourth defeat of the season to second favourites Munster. But the Italian contingent in Scotland will be out in force to cheer on Zebre, fresh from a 29-14 win against Newport Gwent Dragons which moved them off the bottom of the Guinness Pro12 table.

Cardiff Blues vs Ospreys

Losing to Leinster was a major blow to Ospreys’ hopes of wrestling the title from Ireland. Dan Biggar took a knock and later missed a kicking chance to win the game, but it’s time to put that behind them. The eighth-placed Blues will be buoyed by a battling draw at Ulster.

Munster Rugby vs Ulster

James Cronin went over the line to set Munster on the road to a tight win over Glasgow Warriors last week to make it four wins in four and stay within two points of the leaders. After a home draw with Cardiff Blues, Ulster are now in a battle for fourth place with Scarlets and will be right up for this match. It should be a belter.

ROUND 20 SUNDAY:

Dragons vs Scarlets

Contrasting fortunes against the Italian sides last week show just how far apart these two are. Scarlets romped up to fourth with an eight-try destruction of Treviso to make it five wins in six, while the Dragons were extinguished by then-bottom club Zebre. The Gwent strugglers haven’t won in six and could even end up below tenth!

Treviso vs Edinburgh

There’s a fascinating clash at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo when bottom club Treviso welcome ninth-placed Edinburgh. When last at home, the Italians pulled off a stunning victory over Ospreys and that win is one more than Edinburgh have achieved in the last six. Is there more Italian joy to come?

Connacht vs Leinster

Leinster are top thanks to a last-minute drop goal slotted by Ross Byrne to give the Irish a crucial 20-18 win over third-placed Ospreys. Connacht welcome the leaders to Galway fresh from a 22-19 win in Edinburgh which halted a run of two consecutive defeats. This is a much bigger test for Pat Lam’s boys.
