The F1 drivers are back in Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and just like every year, online betting fans could see lots of major technical upgrades from the constructors that would spice up sports betting even more.
As the common knowledge in the sport goes, being quick on this track – with its variety of corners – means that you can be quick on other circuits as well. With that said, it also poses the biggest opportunity for the constructors to understand their package and make improvements to sway betting odds in their favour.
Spanish Grand Prix
All the teams have brought aerodynamic upgrades to the race, but Mercedes had the most eye-catching improvement with a narrower nose and other changes which, as seen in the practice races, appear to have significant effects.
Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have dominated the practice with their improved cars, making them early favourites with odds of 1.80 and 3.50 respectively. If their upgrades proved to be the real deal, a one-two finish in the race isn’t impossible at all.
Of course, Ferrari are still there, and they have shown that they are ready to challenge Mercedes once again. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen are at odds of 4.50 and 15.00 correspondingly, though the team will have to make additional adjustments to keep up the pace against their top rivals.
Another team to watch out for are the Red Bull. Their latest package of upgrades seems to have brought them closer to the two leaders, so it isn’t farfetched for Max Verstappen (26.00)—who won here last year—and Daniel Ricciardo (34.00) to pull off an upset or at least challenge for a podium finish.
Although there isn’t much to see in the mid-field, it won’t be all just the upgrades to look forward to.
Tyre strategy and managing pit stops will also play a huge role given that the track is known for its abrasive and bumpy surface which makes tyre wear particularly high.
Not to mention that the circuit has few overtaking opportunities.
With that in mind, if Sergio Perez, Esteban Ocon, Felipe Massa and Nico Hulkenberg play their cards right, they can overcome the odds that tip them all at 501.00.
Fernando Alonso could look to impress his adoring home fans, but with odds of 1501.00 for a Spanish title win and following a new low with another engine failure, he won’t put his hopes up.
Anything can happen in this race with all the teams looking to change their fortune, so it’s likely that fans will see more than just one colour of car fighting for pole this Sunday.
