There have been several developments that occurred last week here in Formula 1, which involves different drivers finding their way into their new homes.
Ferrari made headlines in our Formula 1 2020 news when they tapped Carlos Sainz Jr. to team up with Charles Leclerc since Sebastian Vettel is expected to leave after this season.
With a spot left open by Carlos Sainz Jr., McLaren went on to swoop up Daniel Ricciardo to take his place starting next year.
On the other hand, Formula 1 icon Fernando Alonso is said to be ready and eager to return next season, according to his main adviser Flavio Bratore. But which constructor would be willing to make a deal for the 38-year-old?

The future is here for the Prancing Horse
Ferrari are still thirsty to reclaim its lost glory. And with them going nowhere over these past few seasons, they’ve decided to retool their group by going in a much different direction.
Carlos Sainz Jr. is the latest Spanish international to join the Scuderia via a two-year deal, and he has big shoes to fill with Sebastian Vettel out of the picture.
“I am very happy that I will be driving for Scuderia Ferrari in 2021 and I’m excited about my future with the team,” said Sainz.
Next year will mark the first time since 2007 that Ferrari don’t have a world champion in their ranks. But despite Sainz and Leclerc’s lack of experience, given they’re both under 25 years old, many believe that this was a great move for the Prancing Horse because of their upside.
“I think Carlos is bloody good. Maybe Charles might edge him in qualifying but when it comes to the race, Carlos will be all over him. He’s going to be fighting to earn his stripes there,” said Trevor Carlin, who was Sainz’s former boss during his Formula 3 days.
“With five seasons already behind him, Carlos has proved to be very talented and has shown that he has the technical ability and the right attributes to make him an ideal fit with our family,” said Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto on Carlo Sainz Jr.
“We believe that a driver pairing with the talent and personality of Charles and Carlos, the youngest in the past 50 years of the Scuderia, will be the best possible combination to help us reach our goals we have set ourselves,” he added.
Sainz enjoyed a strong campaign last season when he defied the Formula 1 2020 odds, finishing a career-best sixth in the drivers’ standings – which is the highest of any driver outside the Big 3 of Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari.
The 25-year-old also had his first podium finish on his resume when he won third place during the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix to give McLaren their first major achievement since the 2014 season.
Interestingly, Sainz’s career track is similar to Fernando Alonso where he started from Toro Rosso, then to Renault, McLaren, and finally to Ferrari.
Renault apparently in the running to get Fernando Alonso
Speaking of Fernando Alonso, rumour has it that he is looking to return on the circuit after taking a break for almost two seasons.
The 38-year-old Spanish international is said to be “motivated” to return after making the most out of his detox from Formula 1.
During his F1 hiatus, Fernando Alonso competed in the Dakar Rally and won the Triple Crown while he is expected to play in the Indianapolis 500 later this year.
“Fernando is motivated. A year out of Formula 1 has done him good. He has detoxed himself and I see him more serene and ready to return,” said manager Flavio Briatore.
The two-time world champion left Formula 1 in 2018 after four lacklustre seasons with McLaren where he didn’t have a single podium finish. At the time, he mentioned that he had no desire to return unless winning is guaranteed.
At this point in his career, Fernando Alonso’s options are very limited. The only constructor that makes sense for him to join is Renault especially since Daniel Ricciardo bolted for McLaren.
It remains to be seen on whether a move to Renault is set to happen. But I’m pretty sure that racing fans will be very excited to see the iconic Spaniard return to the circuit sooner or later.
