What is There to Play For?

So what is left to play for in La Liga, football betting fans?

Apart from the constant thrill of live betting, that is.

All the major issues have really been determined.

But football games don’t always work like that, which is why there’ll be plenty of sides with points to prove this weekend.

WEEK 36 SATURDAY:

Sevilla vs Real Sociedad

They knocked Man Utd out of the Champions League. They were two minutes away from becoming the first side to defeat the still-unbeaten Barcelona in La Liga. Then it all went horribly wrong.

Now Sevilla have sacked manager Vincenzo Montella, replaced by Joaquin Caparros (for his second spell at the club), and will be overtaken in the standings if Sociedad triumph against them.

This is a confident Sociedad side which was a clear winner in last week’s Basque derby.

Girona vs Eibar

A meeting of two of the unsung heroes of La Liga.

Clubs which have more than held their own against the more established outfits and, in Girona’s case, had faint hopes of clinching a European place until recently.

Eibar impressed in holding Valencia to a draw last time out.

Athletic Bilbao vs Real Betis

Bilbao, in contrast, did not impress as they went down to Sociedad in the Basque derby.

It will hurt that they face a season without European football – a stage they have graced regularly in recent times – while this weekend’s opponents have made it with a fine late surge.

Real Betis have not only qualified for next season’s Europa League, they set a new club record of 583 minutes without conceding a goal before finally being breached in last week’s 2-1 success over Malaga.

WEEK 36 SUNDAY:

Celta de Vigo vs Deportivo La Coruna

Celta are another club which had a desperately disappointing season, despite the efforts of Iago Aspas.

It could be worse, mind.

Spare a thought for Deportivo. Relegated during a campaign in which they have had three managers, it’s been a miserable time at the Estadio Riazor.

Villarreal vs Valencia

This is the chance for the Yellow Submarine to all but clinch a place in next season’s Europa League.

The in-form Carlos Bacca is one of the reasons why the club is in sixth place.

It’s been an even better campaign for Valencia who are guaranteed a Champions League qualification spot with owner Peter Lim keen to strengthen the squad for that assault over the summer.

Malaga vs Alaves

It must feel a long road back for Malaga right now: they are rock bottom and 20 points from safety.

Alaves were in trouble themselves until the new year when they embarked on a run which not only turned their season completely around but also took them well clear of trouble.

They posed a threat to Atletico Madrid last weekend and will be keen to finish the season on a high.

Atletico Madrid vs RCD Espanyol

After sealing a place in the Europa League Final, Atletico now gun for second place.

The Rojiblancos would dearly love to finish ahead of their city rivals Real and behind newly crowned champions Barcelona.

Victory against Espanyol, who only have pride to play for, would be a big step towards achieving it.

WEEK 36 MONDAY:

Las Palmas vs Getafe

Getafe travel to the relegated Canary Islanders with the slimmest chance of qualifying for Europe next season.

Whatever happens, they should be proud of their efforts this year.

Las Palmas have not won since early February when they saw off bottom club Malaga.

WEEK 36 TUESDAY:

Leganes vs Levante

Both clubs can enjoy this.

Even a month ago, neither were overly confident they would have such a gap over the bottom three with three matches still to go.

Coach Paco Lopez has guided Levante to six wins in their past eight games to guarantee safety.
