What has happened at the Mestalla? Unbeaten in eight league football games and with four wins on the bounce; Valencia are second, above Atletico and Real Madrid.
This week Marcelino’s men host fifth placed Sevilla and the home fans just can’t wait.
WEEK 9 SATURDAY:
12th plays 14th in a game in which both will fancy a win, but more than likely settle for a draw. Getafe arrive on the back of two consecutive defeats while Levante have picked up a solitary point from the last three after a good start.
Real Betis vs Alaves
Real Betis had gone four games unbeaten and taken ten points in the process until they were hit for six by a rampant Valencia last weekend, so Quique Setien will have his team fired up for the visit of 19th placed Alaves. Last year’s Copa finalists have suffered five defeats in six.
WEEK 9 SUNDAY:
Valencia vs Sevilla
Marcelino has weaved some magic in Valencia to make the most demanding of fans happy again. And the hosts are at betting odds of 1.96 to win on Saturday, with Sevilla at 3.70 and the Draw 3.45. It won’t have escaped Sevilla’s attention that Valencia thumped an in-form Real Betis 6-3 last week and Simone Zaza has already scored seven. The visitors, in contrast, were thrashed 5-1 in Moscow in midweek.
Barcelona vs Malaga
Valencia can’t catch the league leaders though, even if Barca was to do the unthinkable and slip up against bottom placed Malaga. Barcelona are 1.86 with a -3.00 goals handicap Malaga 2.07 with that start. Lionel Messi is odds on to add to his 11 league goals and if you really want, you can get 32.00 on an away win!
Villarreal vs Las Palmas
Conceding five at home to Celta Vigo is not the best preparation for a trip to Villarreal either. After a patchy start which saw coach Fran Escriba sacked, the Yellow submarine has steadied under Javi Calleja and is up to eighth.
Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid
This is a tough test for fourth placed Atletico, and after two league draws and a crushing goalless stalemate against Qarabag, Diego Simeone’s troops need a boost. Celta smashed Las Palmas on a trip to Gran Canaria last Monday and is unbeaten in four.
WEEK 9 MONDAY:
Leganes vs Athletic Bilbao
Eight points from the last four league games have taken Asier Garitano’s Leganes up to sixth place and the Madrid minnows are certainly enjoying their second season in the Primera Liga. Athletic Club, in 11th, haven’t won away in five.
Real Madrid vs Eibar
Three consecutive wins have dragged Los Blancos up to third and now just five points from the top. A stern Champions League examination by Spurs may have left Real a little fatigued but they’ll have plenty to cope with 16th-placed Eibar, without a win in five.
WEEK 9 TUESDAY:
Real Sociedad vs RCD Espanyol
After opening the season with three wins Real Sociedad, have recovered from a mini slump of three defeats, beating Alaves last time out. Espanyol are four points behind in 13th place but have lost just one, to Real Madrid, in the last five.
Deportivo La Coruna vs Girona
Seven points from four games have lifted Depor to 15th after it looked like another long season was on the way, and this is exactly the type of fixture Pepe Mel will target to ensure the hosts stay out of trouble. Girona are outside the bottom three on goal difference alone but Christhian Stuani, on four goals, is a threat.
