Top 5 Bundesliga Matches of 2020 So Far

The 2019-20 Bundesliga season to date has been a barn burner. From massive upsets to high-scoring shootouts, there were all sorts of great matches that entertained SBOBET Bundesliga fans.

Hopefully, there will be more top-quality matches coming soon now that the Bundesliga is slowly preparing to come back after the pause in play.

But before the Bundesliga kicks off once again, here’s a quick look back at the best games that have already taken place in Germany this season.

Union Berlin 3-1 Borussia Dortmund

Union Berlin had a rough start to their first-ever Bundesliga campaign. The newly promoted side picked up just one win in their first seven matches of the season, with five defeats.

However, that one win will go down in history as they defied the Bundesliga 2020 odds and beat none other than Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 3 to claim their first Bundesliga victory.

Union took an early lead through Marius Bulter, only to see Paco Alcacer equalise just minutes later. But Berlin battled in the second half and scored twice through Bulter and Sebastian Andersson to seal the famous win.

Dortmund would get their revenge by hammering Union Berlin 5-0 at home. But Union fans will always have that memory of beating the BVB in front of a delirious crowd at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 Bayern Munich

Speaking of upsets, the entire Bundesliga was shaken to its very core after Eintracht Frankfurt pulled off a stunning 5-1 victory over reigning champions Bayern Munich.

Bayern were down to 10 men after just nine minutes as Jerome Boateng was sent off for a last-ditch challenge on Goncalo Paciencia.

Frankfurt took full advantage of that man advantage as they went up 2-0 just after the half hour mark. Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for Bayern before half-time, but that proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Frankfurt found the net three more times in the second half as Bayern gradually faded as the match wore on.

That match gave many in Germany hope that this was clearly not a vintage Bayern side that would simply run away with the title. And they would be encouraged even further by another massive result.

Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 Bayern Munich

With Bayern struggling, Borussia Monchengladbach were the surprise leaders of the Bundesliga after 13 matches. Die Fohlen had impressed with their play under manager Marco Rose, and they would win more fans over after their dramatic 2-1 win over Bayern at Borussia-Park.

Bayern dominated most of the first half as Gladbach were fortunate to reach half-time still tied at 0-0. Eventually, though, Bayern broke the deadlock through Ivan Perisic.

But Gladbach did not break. They would bounce back and grab an equaliser on the hour mark through Ramy Bensebaini, who headed home from a corner.

The match would then go on to have one of the most dramatic endings in this Bundesliga season. On 90 minutes, Javi Martinez slid in and brought down Marcus Thuram in the penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot and sent Martinez off for a second yellow.

Bensebaini stepped up to take what was likely the most pressure-packed penalty of his entire career. But the Gladbach left-back kept his nerve and slotted past Manuel Neuer to hand the Foals a famous win.

Borussia Dortmund 3-3 RB Leipzig

Dortmund and Leipzig met for a big showdown of supposed title contenders just before the winter break. A home win for Dortmund would close the gap on leaders Leipzig to a single point, so there was a lot on the line.

Things were going according to plan for the home side as they went up 2-0 heading into half-time. However, two costly errors allowed Leipzig to claw their way back through Timo Werner.

Dortmund struck back immediately as Sancho put them back in the lead. But Leipzig made the last decisive blow in this heavyweight bout. Patrik Schick scored an equaliser as the two sides shared the spoils in a 3-3 thriller.

The two sides are set to meet again in the penultimate matchday of the season, which should provide more Bundesliga 2020 highlights.

Augsburg 3-5 Borussia Dortmund

There was a big buzz around Borussia Dortmund as they came back from the winter break with a new star: Erling Braut Haaland. BVB won the race to sign the highly rated 19-year-old striker, who made a debut for the ages against Augsburg.

Dortmund manager Lucien Favre decided not to go with Haaland at the start, but he had no choice but to bring the teenager on in the second half after Dortmund went down 3-1.

It took Haaland just four minutes to make his mark on his new side as he pulled a goal back. And after Jadon Sancho equalised a couple of minutes later, Haaland showed the Dortmund fans — and the Bundesliga as a whole — what he was capable of as he struck twice more to seal a spectacular debut hat-trick.
