It’s been an interesting season for Manchester United and the faithful fans that fill Old Trafford day in and day out.
They made a splash during the last two transfer windows, completing deals that make the front page of football news sites. Players like Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic, Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez immediately made Jose Mourinho’s squad a whole lot better.
However, their inclusions mattered little as Pep Guardiola and Manchester City played fantastic football and pulled off a historic season. The €164 million they spent during the last season got them second place, which is a disappointment to many of the United faithful.
It’s known to everybody that Jose Mourinho and Manchester United want one thing and one thing only: to win trophies and dominate every competition they are in. With this in mind, the club is not shy about pulling out all of their resources and getting the best players they in the market.
However, the question that begs to be asked now is this: which players should the Red Devils pursue in order to boost their chances of a Premier League victory?
Gareth Bale, Real Madrid
It’s no hidden secret that Gareth Bale is being shopped around by Real Madrid after an inconsistent stint with the La Liga giants. He scored the winning goal against Liverpool in the Champions League final, but that still hasn’t secured his position and future with the Madrid side.
Rumours of Manchester United orchestrating a Premier League return for the former Tottenham Hotspur star is already making rounds across various social media sites. Los Blancos are still looking for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo despite having him on the roster, so there’s no question that the man will not be held back by the club for the right price.
Bale is a prolific scorer who has netted 16 goals in 26 league appearances for Real Madrid. His attacking prowess is a big need for United, the only club among the top four to net less than 70 goals.
Mourinho could use every attacking boost they could get for the coming season. After all, their next-door neighbours just netted 106 in 38 games. Fans will hope that the news of Bale’s acquisition would hit Manchester United updates and news circles sooner rather than later.
Toni Kroos, Real Madrid
Paul Pogba is the most expensive player United have bought in their history, but the academy product has not lived up to the standards set by his outrageous price tag. While he has garnered an impressive 10 assists in 27 league appearances, his energy and play style on the pitch have left many a fan disappointed.
Mourinho continues to rain praise on the France international, who is currently showing first-class football for Les Bleus. However, I don’t think he can rely on Pogba’s inconsistent play if he wants to lead United to a title. That’s where shopping for another Real Madrid starter comes in.
Toni Kroos is a viable option for Manchester United. He has been a stable rock for Los Blancos and the German national team. He single-handedly gave a poor Die Mannschaft team a second (but squandered chance) to get out of the group stage via his superb goal against Sweden.
On the club front, the 28-year-old has been a solid option for Zinedine Zidane. He has scored 11 goals for Real Madrid during his four-year stint, but his defence and reliable stability at the front is what made him a fixture in the starting XI.
And that stability of his is something Mourinho could use in the backbone of his formation. Pairing him with Pogba in the middle would make Man United a terrifying team to contend against.
Toby Alderweireld, Tottenham Hotspur
United’s defence against most Premier League opposition has been tough like a wall. However, not the same thing could be said against Champions League competition. They managed to win against Manchester City in February, but the 2-3 victory was more due to United’s attacking rather than their defence.
Mourinho could use a great boost on their backline, and Toby Alderweireld is a great pickup for the Red Devils. The Belgium international is still a top defender in the Premier League, but he has found himself out of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans the previous seasons.
The transfer also looks plausible with the Tottenham man interested in the acquisition. Alderweireld will reportedly make his decision when the season is over, but it is very likely that he will make the move upwards.
If he does make the move, the odds of Manchester United at SBOBET is bound to improve. Alderweireld showed his quality in this World Cup, and his tenacious defending is something that United badly needs.
