This is going to be an interesting summer for Serie A teams as they prepare for the 2022/23 season in just a few months from now.
With the Scudetto currently residing at Milan, the Rossoneri now have a big target on their backs since they’re favoured highly by the Serie A 2022 odds, which is why it’s a must that they further bolster their squad.
Previous champions Inter Milan and Juventus are also thinking the same thing as they try to reclaim the Italian top-flight crown, while AS Roma now have bigger fish to fry after making history in their win at the Europa Conference League.
As the transfer rumour mill heats up, continue to tune in to SBOTOP as we bring to you the newest Serie A 2022 updates.
Romelu Lukaku pushing for Inter Milan reunion
Romelu Lukaku is the cautionary tale that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and he learned that the hard way after yet another unproductive stint with Chelsea.
The Belgian striker returned to Stamford Bridge last summer at the transfer fee of £97.5-M since he was one of Europe’s best forwards at the time, but he finished the 2021/22 campaign with only 15 goals in 44 games across all competitions for the Blues and was often left out of the starting lineup.
He also drew the ire of Chelsea fans during an unsanctioned interview with Sky Sports on December where he was questioning Thomas Tuchel’s tactics while expressing his desire to return San Siro – where he had his most successful stint of his career by scoring 64 goals in 95 games along with winning a Serie A title.
Given that Chelsea paid an exorbitant amount to get Lukaku, the once cash-strapped Inter Milan are unlikely to buy him back since he’s out of form. The only way that the Belgian gets his wish is if Chelsea and Inter Milan agree on a loan deal.
Inter Milan are currently in the market for a forward and Lukaku can fill their need given his familiarity with the squad. However, they’re also keeping tabs on Paulo Dybala, who’s set to leave Juventus on a free transfer.
The chances of Lukaku returning to Inter Milan seems bleak for now since Chelsea have other priorities as of the moment. Following Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club, the Blues are focused on bringing in defencive reinforcements with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving.
AC Milan and AS Roma looking to retool
Along with Inter, AC Milan and AS Roma are two clubs to monitor in the upcoming transfer window, with both teams keen on adding a couple of defencive pieces – whether at the back or in the midfield.
AC Milan are currently eyeing the Lille pair of Sven Botman and Renato Sanches, hoping that they can confirm their arrivals as soon as this weekend.
Sanches is fresh from a decent campaign where he registered two goals and five assists in 25 Ligue 1 matches. Botman, meanwhile, is a sought-after commodity since he’s one of the world’s top young defenders.
Meanwhile, AS Roma have produced a shortlist of midfielders, including Ruben Neves, Leandro Paredes, and Yves Bissouma. They are also reportedly going after another winger at the request of Jose Mourinho – who recently confirmed that he’s staying after he was reportedly being pursued by PSG to be their new coach.
The Giallorossi just lost Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Nerazzurri when their extension offer was rejected by the Armenian. Moreover, the club has reached an agreement with Nemanja Matic, but the Serbian is approaching the twilight of his career.
Leandro Paredes has already played for AS Roma before moving to France and he has one more year left on his contract with PSG. However, the 27-year-old might be keen on a reunion since he is apparently not in the Parisiens’ long-term plans.
Domenico Berardi is a wanted man
After a phenomenal 2021/22 campaign, Domenico Berardi is being coveted by several Serie A teams such as Juventus, AS Roma, Napoli, AC Milan, and Fiorentina.
The Italian forward made 34 appearances last season, scoring goals and dishing out 15 assists, and his current market value is at €41-M. Berardi has two years left on his current contract with Sassuolo.
Juventus are the ones who are pushing the hardest for his signature following Paulo Dybala’s departure, and he is being eyed as an alternative to Angel Di Maria.
Di Maria is set to leave PSG and Juventus were the favourites, but their negotiations have hit a snag when Barcelona stepped into the picture.
