Serie A: I Bianconeri Smell Three in a Row

Juventus vs Roma

Thiago Motta and Daniele De Rossi will face each other on Monday as Serie A moves on to its third gameweek.

However, the two former midfielders won’t be on the pitch and instead will duel on the touchlines.

Motta’s Juventus have been on a roll so far, winning both of their first two matches whilst scoring three goals each.

Meanwhile, it’s been a disastrous start for I Giallorossi. Roma went goalless against Cagliari in their season opener, and suffered a 1-2 loss against Empoli.

This fixture will be the last one before the Nations League/World Cup qualifiers start, and both clubs will be hoping to go into the international break on a high.

Talking Points

Juve are on fire

I Bianconeri fans who have been praying for an entertaining brand of football are probably over the moon right now.

Gone are the days of Massimiliano Allegri lulling the Allianz Stadium to sleep; the future is now and Thiago Motta has this team firing on all cylinders.

They were ruthless against new boys Como, gutting Cesc Fabregas’ side in a 3-0 victory. Samuel Mbangula, Timothy Weah and Andrea Cambiaso were all on target during the win.

As dominant as it was, the result could’ve been worse for Como had it not been for Dusan Vlahovic missing his chances.

However, it did not take long for the striker to find his footing.

Vlahovic scored a brace against Hellas Verona, whilst Nicolo Savona also got his name on the scoresheet as The Old Lady took another 0-3 win.

Despite these performances, Como and Verona aren’t exactly the litmus test for Juventus’ performance this season.

The upcoming match against Roma will be a tougher test for the hosts, and a dominant display against Daniele De Rossi’s side will be a sign of better things to come for the sleeping giants.

La Joya stays, but unable to inspire Roma

AS Roma are winless in their first two Serie A games, with one draw and one loss
AS Roma’s Paulo Dybala warming up before their match against Empoli

The Paulo Dybala saga has finally come to a conclusion, days before the transfer window shuts its doors.

According to Serie A 2024 updates, La Joya is staying put in Rome, much to the delight of the ardent Roma supporters hell-bent on wanting the 30-year-old attacker to stay.

Their wish was granted, and Dybala chose to make a U-turn from his apparent move to Saudi club Al-Qadsiah.

De Rossi praised his star player’s decision, telling the Roma faithful to be proud of Dybala’s choice.

“These decisions are also the result of the love that exists in this city. It’s a beautiful story, not often seen in the world of football, and the fans should be proud,” he said.

Roma have so far started on a rough patch, and La Joya was left winless on his first two games. Despite the feel-good story, De Rossi’s Roma have had a rough start, and La Joya was left winless on his first two games.

Dybala appeared as a substitute in the draw against Cagliari, and even though he played relatively well for the 21 minutes he was on the pitch, he was unable to give his side a goal that would’ve brought home all three points.

He started in the second match against Empoli, creating opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net, whilst he himself was being aggressive in front of goal. But in the end, Empoli ran away with the win.

History:

These two historic teams have faced each other 51 times since 2003. The Old Lady hold a considerable head-to-head advantage of 27 wins to Roma’s 12, with another 12 of their meetings ending in a draw.

With the status of being Italy’s top teams, past meetings between Juventus and Roma have always been graced by legends. Andrea Pirlo, Francesco Totti, Gianluigi Buffon, Daniele De Rossi and Giorgio Chiellini are just some examples of football’s finest that have appeared in the always exciting and highly anticipated fixture.

And although Juve are heavy favourites for this one, they weren’t able to complete the league double over Roma last season (1W-1D).

Betting Tip

The Old Lady are heavily favoured to make it three wins in a row, with the SBOTOP Serie A 2024 odds betting that the struggling Roma won’t pose much of a threat.

Still, if you think the underdogs can slay the home team, then Roma is priced at 4.27 whilst sharing the points between the two is at 3.31.

I would also be inclined to put money on Juventus Asian Handicap (-0.75) which stands at 2.04 given the hosts’ knack for goals so far.

But if you just want a straightforward bet that is safest to yield winning returns, then I suggest you take my tip. Barring any surprising injuries on matchday, Juventus take this one easily.
