Serie A: Europa League Hunters Roma Take On Surprising Fiorentina

AS Roma vs Fiorentina

There are a few matchdays left in Serie A as we are reaching the conclusion of the 2019/20 season, and another fascinating match beckons us at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend.

It will be AS Roma who will host Fiorentina – two teams who have been on remarkable runs as of late.

I Giallorossi are unbeaten in five straight matches, while La Viola have been surprising every SBOBET football fan by going six consecutive games without a loss.

With these two matching up, something has to give, although one of them needs this win more than the other.

AS Roma are teetering on the edge as they try to hold on to the fifth spot at the table, especially with the sixth-seeded AC Milan club breathing down on their necks fresh off of a draw against Atalanta.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina have quashed any fears of being relegated this season, and a win here could elevate them to as high as the ninth spot.

The last time these two met in December, AS Roma thrashed Fiorentina with a 4-1 victory. However, a lot has changed since then.

Can La Viola get their revenge this time around? Or will the Giallorossi repeat the same result this time on their home pitch?

Talking Points

AS Roma plan to fend off AC Milan

The Giallorossi may have to thank Atalanta for preventing AC Milan to come away with the three points in the last time out.

Although it was a missed opportunity as far as Atalanta’s title hopes are concerned, the draw put Roma in the driver seat in the Europa League chase.

Roma have 61 points as of this writing, which is only one point ahead AC Milan, so they would need to take care of business come Sunday in order to consolidate their spot.

A look at their recent Serie A 2020 results indicate that a win is in order since they have won four of their last five matches.

They’ve beaten up some lower tier teams in Parma, Brescia, Hellas Verona, and S.P.A.L. by scoring at least two goals in those contests.

Paulo Fonseca’s side almost came away with a win against Inter Milan, but a late Romelu Lukaku penalty prevented that from happening.

Still, it was an encouraging performance for a team that has been banged up recently.

The absences of Roger Ibanez, Cengiz Under, Juan Jesus, Federico Fazio, and Davide Stanton have hurt I Giallorossi’s depth at the back and they remain doubtful in this upcoming match.

However, their prolific attack is still in good shape with Edin Dzeko, Diego Perotti, and Nicolo Zaniolo rested, while Nikola Kalinic gave Paulo Fonseca something to think about after his fine performance against S.P.A.L.

Fiorentina looking to end on a good note

Giuseppe Iachini has done a great job in steering La Viola to a better direction after replacing Vincenzo Montella last December.

A victory for Fiorentina could see them move in the other half of the Serie A table

The 56-year-old manager has already exceeded expectations for Fiorentina, who were desperately looking to finish higher than 16th place last term.

With the fear of being in the drop zone already non-existent, La Viola would be keen on trying to punch above their weight to jumpstart their ongoing rebuild.

And so far, they have done just that by going six consecutive matches unbeaten as of today.

After losing against Lazio and Sassuolo to end the month of June, Fiorentina turned things around by defeating Parma, Lecce, and Torino, while drawing level against Cagliari, Hellas Verona, and even Inter Milan.

Their defence has done a great job in stifling their opponents – having only conceded three goals during their unbeaten run. But it will be tested big time when they take on an in-form Roma club.

History

I Giallorossi and La Viola have had a rich history facing each other in Italy.

If we count their matches way before in the current era, all in all, they’ve faced each other in 183 meetings.

In those meetings, AS Roma have the slight edge in the head-to-heads with 63 wins, while Fiorentina have won in 57 games along with 66 draws.

Fiorentina have won just twice in the Stadio Olimpico since 1991.

Betting Tip

??
AS Roma vs Fiorentina 1X2 AS Roma @ 1.65
July 27, 01:30 (GMT+8)

My recommendation for this fixture is to place your wager on AS Roma at 1.65 in the 1×2 market. Fiorentina are priced lower at 4.40 and a draw is quite unlikely at 4.20, as per our Serie A 2020 odds.

Expect fireworks and goals in this contest since both of them are trigger-happy whenever they lock horns. So placing your bets on Over 2.50 @ 1.94 or Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.88 are good places to start. You may opt for Total Goal 4-6 @ 1.66 as well.

Paulo Fonseca’s attacking stars have been on the spotlight in recent weeks and they have every right to feel very confident ahead of this match.

AS Roma are clearly the better side right now, but they might let their guard down a little bit especially after defeating S.P.A.L., 6-1, in the last time out.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
