Burnley vs Tottenham
The Clarets will be clinging on to the comfort of playing in their home pitch as they host the Spurs at Turf Moor few days from now.
Burnley and Tottenham currently occupy two contrasting places at Premier League standings and the former is hoping for things to turn around as fast as possible.
Sean Dyche’s side have yet to get their first win of the season after the first four matchdays and because of that, they are in the drop zone with Sheffield United and Fulham.
On the other hand, Jose Mourinho’s men are good for the eighth spot with eight points. Their form has been improving, but they recognise that more work needs to be done especially with the long season ahead.
The recent SBOTOP betting tips see this as an easy victory for Tottenham, but it failed to factor in their inconsistency especially in the last time out.
Last week, the Spurs held a 3-0 against West Ham United, only to see them squander it capped off by a screamer from Manuel Lanzini.
Can Tottenham close it out this time around? Or will Burnley come away with a positive result and stun their counterparts anew?
Read on below for our match preview.
Talking points
Can Burnley grab their first win of the season?
Team manager Sean Dyche is hungry for their first win this season, and he plans on going the unconventional to pull out all the stops.
He bared that he wants his men to make it “awkward” for Tottenham, which probably means playing with more toughness and physicality as to not let them have their way.
“We will look to play effectively and a style that is awkward and hard to get grip of. They are in good form and they have top players,” said Dyche in an interview with Sky Sports.
Despite their horrid start to their 2020/21 Premier League campaign, Dyche sees no reason to stray away from his usual blueprint that has worked so well for him in his last eight years in charge.
However, he would rather have all of his boys available to give themselves a better chance of winning.
Erik Pieters is nursing a calf injury which makes him doubtful, while Ben Mee is still working to get back to 100-per cent fitness.
Matt Lowton, Jack Cork, and Bailey Peacock-Farrell aren’t fully healthy as well while Phil Bardsley would have to continue his self-isolation as he tested positive for the coronavirus.
Will Gareth Bale get another start?
One of the biggest Premier League 2020 news came over the last transfer window when Gareth Bale made his homecoming to Tottenham via a loan from Real Madrid.
It was a breath of fresh air that the Welsh international needed, especially after being frozen out in the defending La Liga champions’ rotation for quite some time now.
Gareth Bale played his first game as a starter in their Europa League fixture against LASK, but he didn’t finish the whole game and he never got to share the field alongside Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.
Whether he recaptures his old talismanic ways remains to be seen, but nonetheless, Bale is finally happy to be back where he belongs.
Even without him, the Spurs have been hitting their stride as their attack has been relentless against opponents’ defences.
Son Heung-min and Harry Kane have formed a tantalising duo as the goals keep on coming in their Premier League 2020 highlights reel.
History
The Spurs are primed to win in this game, and it will boost their overall record in Turf Moor.
Prior to this match, Tottenham are winless in their last two matches (D1, L1) in Turf Moor, although they have won seven of their last 12 games against Burnley.
Burnley, meanwhile, are winless in their last two trips to Turf Moor. Losing another one here would equal their longest home losing streak since December 2018.
Tottenham have been dangerous as the away team so far this season, as they’ve scored 11 goals en route to their victories against Southampton and Manchester United.
Betting Tip
Burnley vs Tottenham | Tottenham Asian Handicap -0.75 @ 1.80 | |
October 26, 8:00(GMT+8) |
For this upcoming match, Tottenham are heavily backed to win over their struggling counterparts.
Our latest Premier League 2020 odds have them priced at 1.61, while Burnley are placed at 5.40 to win, and a draw is at 3.75 in the 1×2 market.
Goals will come in abundance especially with the way the Spurs have been playing so far, so going for Over 2.50 @ 1.59 or Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.90 are good places to go as well.
After suffering a huge mental lapse in the last time out, it is certain that the Spurs will come in here with a much more vengeful attitude.
Jose Mourinho will have his boys ready to go and they will show no mercy to a poor Burnley side who have yet to get their first win of the season.
