Premier League: New Era for Manchester United

Manchester United vs Watford

The Theatre of Dreams has finally banished the nightmares which have engulfed the famous ground over the last few seasons, and Manchester United fans are gleefully ushering in a new era.

With the Old Trafford board just confirming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as permanent boss on a three year deal, the United stadium will be bouncing on Saturday when Manchester United takes on Watford in the Premier League. But the Hornets will turn up with one objective, to sting the Red Devils and wipe the happy smiles off the faces of the Red Devils’ fans.

Talking Points

‘Ole is at the wheel

Tell me how good does if feel’ …so sing the Manchester United faithful, and they will be hoping it feels a whole lot better in the coming weeks. There’s only been one man dominating the Manchester United vs Watford news today and fans are wistfully recalling the baby faced assassin’s last gasp goal in the 1999 Champions League final.

‘He’s Manchester United through and through’ they tell themselves and that’s what they have been yearning for, as they have watched a procession of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho dish up a selection of often turgid football. Well they have their wish now and OGS has been handed a three year deal, having won 14 of his 19 games in charge since taking over in December.

The Norwegian boss has rekindled the clubs’ penchant for dramatic late winners and overcoming daunting barriers. The Red Devils rolled back the clock by dumping PSG out of the Champions League with a late penalty and that alone was enough for their fans to shout ‘Ole’!

On his appointment the new boss said, “From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club. This is the job I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long term.”

Music to the fans’ ears.

And Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba have enjoyed a renaissance under the new boss and are top scoring, with 12 and 11 goals. But OGS suffered his first loss at the helm in a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal before the international break, and now he’s in the hot seat for the foreseeable future the honeymoon is officially over. At odds of 1.44 he’s expected to win his first game in permanent charge.

Many Red Devils’ fans hope coach Mike Phelan will be meeting with the club imminently to discuss his next role at the club. Phelan was Sir Alex Phelan’s right hand man in the second half of the great man’s reign at Old Trafford. And those in the know insist he’s a vital cog in the machine.

Big season for the Hornets

SBOBET Premier League fans (ones like me) love an underdog; and Watford has had a superb season under the guidance of Javier Garcia.

The Hornets are in the FA Cup semi-final and are chasing a Europa League place; though how hard they should chase is up for debate when you look at Burnley’s struggles this season after their early season Europa fixture congestion.

The Hornets have a strong spine spearheaded by their talisman Troy Deeney, not the most artistic of players but neither one which any defender looks forward to facing, and he’s top-scoring with eight goals. Alongside Deeney the former Everton and Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu has added a touch of pace and guile, with a steady supply of ammunition for his captain, as well as scoring seven goals himself.

In goal Ben Foster has had a superb season and with Adrian Mariappa marshalling the defence in front of him the visitors will be hard to break down.

And French midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is having another fine season at Vicarage Road, gaining many admirers and admitting his ambition is to play in the Champions League.

The Hornets gave Manchester City a good game recently and were undone by a poor offside decision which set Raheem Sterling on course for a hat-trick. They will put up a good fight as always, and are available at 6.40 to win or 4.50 to draw; with the double chance of 2.64 an attractive option for Watford fans.

History

In the last 12 matches contested between Manchester United and Watford the Red Devils have won 11 with the Hornets bagging a solitary 3-1 win back in 2016.

Manchester United hasn’t lost at home to Watford in its last five encounters at Old Trafford and has a home record of 8-5-1.

Referee Stuart Atwell may have two players in his sights. Manchester United’s Luke Shaw has picked up nine yellow cards while Watford’s Jose Holebas can beat that with an impressive ten!

So where can we find the best value when we look at the latest Manchester United vs Watford betting odds?

Betting Tip

??
Manchester United vs Watford Under 3.00 goals @ 1.80
March 30, 23:00(GMT+8)

Things are heating up in the race for a Champions League place at the top end of the league, with four teams contesting two places. The Red Devils sit just outside the top four and the whole of Salford will be willing their new permanent boss to have a winning start. They should be happy at the end of the game.

But the Hornets simply love to be party poopers and they may have a siege mentality, having been on the end of a rough decision at the Etihad. And they have no little quality to call on.

The home team will be desperate to prove the Manchester United board has made the right decision, but if they don’t score an early goal that will embolden the visitors.
