Premier League: Eagles Set to Take a Hammering!

West Ham United vs Crystal Palace

Patrick Vieira takes his Crystal Palace team across town to East London on Saturday, a short trip for a huge game away to meet David Moyes’ West Ham.

We’re only two games into the season but there has already been some great drama and action and this fixture, Premier League: West Ham vs Crystal Palace has plenty to get excited about, particularly if you are a Hammers fan, having watched your team storm to two big victories already. The Eagles earned their first point of the season last weekend and will look to build upon that, but with an inexperienced head coach and one of the League’s aging squads there could be a long season ahead.

It’s far too early to be sure and teams can still add to their squads for another week, but the pre-match West Ham vs Crystal Palace betting odds back a home win and that’s where I’m heading!

Talking Points

Hammers on fire

Surely any David Moyes’ doubters are long gone from the London Stadium by now, after the Hammers have followed their best season in the Premier League with back to back victories at the start of the 2021/22 campaign. Six points is a fine return but it is the manner of the wins which has been the most impressive. After making a slow start in their opener, away to Newcastle United, the Hammers came to life in the second half to blow the Magpies away 4-2

A second fixture, at home to Leicester City, looked a tougher assignment all round, but West Ham hit four again, running out 4-1 winners as Michail Antonio scored twice to add to the one he bagged against the Magpies. That means Antonio has become the Hammers’ top scoring Premier League player of all time, beating Paulo Di Canio’s record and increasing his tally to 49. Said Benrahma scored his second of the season, and Pablo Fornals was also on target against the Foxes who went down to ten men when Ayoze Perez was red carded for a reckless challenge.

This is a team packed with talent and brimming with confidence with Euro 2020 stars Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice pulling the strings in midfield. After a difficult few seasons Hammers fans have plenty to be cheerful about.

Palace need a striker

Premier League: Patrick Vieira loves Wilfried Zaha's winning mentality
Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha reacts during their game vs Watford

Things are not quite so rosy down at Selhurst Park where, for far too long, Crystal Place have relied on heavily on the goals and assists of Wilfried Zaha to keep them away from trouble. But the 28 year old, who has given his best years to the Eagles, can no longer be expected to carry a side on his own shoulders in the toughest league in world football.

The Eagles have started pretty much as expected, losing comfortably away to Chelsea and then battling to a point against newly promoted Brentford. The SBOTOP team has rated them as relegation candidates and we haven’t seen anything yet to contradict that view. The Selhurst faithful will back their new manager and there were encouraging signs from new recruit Conor Gallagher who hit the woodwork, but then so did Bryan Mbeumo for the Bees.

Gallagher’s effort is the nearest Palace have come to a goal so far and Vieira is trying to rectify matters in the rapidly closing transfer window, registering a keen interest in Arsenal’s young striker Eddie Nketiah; but the Gunners are rumoured to be after £20m for their starlet. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to offload some players having spent £126m on recruits including Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale. Nketiah is an exciting talent but he has struggled to break into a side with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette up front. Whether Palace can meet the player’s price and aspirations remain to be seen, while there is competition from an un-named European club.

History

The head to head West Ham vs Crystal Palace results are fairly tight, with the Hammers enjoying a slight edge at ten wins to the Eagles’ eight and there have been eight draws in all matches played since 1994.

Last season this game ended in a 1-1 draw, while West Ham won the away fixture 3-2 as Soucek scored twice after Zaha hit Palace’s opener.

While the Eagles have made a modest start to the campaign, West Ham’s has been spectacular and the Hammers are on a winning streak of seven and unbeaten in 12 in all competitions.

Betting Tip

??
West Ham United vs Crystal Palace West Ham United Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 2.05
August 28, 22:00 (GMT+8)

So it s no surprise that the hosts are at a low price of 1.55 to win this game with the draw at 3.69 and Crystal Palace at 5.60.

The Eagles have Spurs and Liverpool to come after this game and so they could really do with a point against West Ham… but I really can’t see it.

Over 2.50 goals at 1.92 could be good value, while a score line of 2-1 is available at 6.56. And if you fancy West Ham’s trend to continue, then a 4-0 win for the Hammers is priced at 26.92.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
