Gwangju FC vs Ulsan Hyundai
Gwangju FC will look to turn their fortunes around in the ongoing K-League season as they host a top-tier team in Ulsan Hyundai at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium for this upcoming weekend.
The Yellows currently sit at the bottom of the standings with three straight losses. And what’s even more painful to hear is that they have yet to find the back of the net this season.
Ulsan Hyundai, on the other hand, saw their flawless record wiped away when they were held to a draw against Busan I.Park because of the latter’s improved effort on both ends. However, they are still second in the league standings with two wins and a draw.
Our K-League 2020 odds heavily favour Ulsan Hyundai to cruise to an easy victory as they are priced at 1.75 at the 1×2 market. Gwangju FC are way behind at 4.60 while odds of a draw are at 3.45.
The home team is expected to play with a huge sense of urgency for this match. But can that translate to an improbable win against one of the league leaders?
Here is the preview of this game given to you by SBOBET.
Talking Points
Gwangju FC’s attack has a gaping hole
The Yellows will have a lot of work to do if they plan on staying in top-flight for a very long time.
The Park Jin-seop managed squad has yet to figure out what works for them after transitioning to the first division especially since they’re the only team to have yet to score a goal this season.
Gwangju FC have been experimenting with different tactics in their first three fixtures, switching between a 4-4-2, 3-5-2, and even a 4-5-1 rotation in separate instances.
But so far it hasn’t worked primarily because of the lack of quality in their personnel. Gwangju’s main guys at the central midfield are above 30 years old and they struggled to cope with teams who are much faster.
Their passing stats are left to be desired as they’ve only put up less than 300 passes. Gwangju’s struggles on the attack were fully exposed in their last match against Sangju Sangmu where they only had one shot on target.
Rustam Ashurmatov has been the only reliable presence for Park Jin-seop. However, since he is a centre-back, it will be hard for him to be fully committed on the attack without leaving the defence compromised.
Meanwhile, Felipe has not been in form so far this term since opposing defences have been keying in on the Brazilian striker. He will definitely need some help in order to regain his footing.
It doesn’t help either that one of their main threats is expected to be out in this fixture. Kim Hyo-gi suffered a head injury last game, but thankfully it is nothing serious according to team reports.
Ulsan Hyundai remain on target
Led by Junior Negrao, the Horangi remain one of the dangerous teams in the league because of their super potent attack.
The Brazilian striker has already five goals under his belt and we can expect more from him this season because of the superb supporting cast around him.
Two matches ago, the Horangi have been tested by the Suwon Bluewings. However, they survived after a late goal by Junior Negrao.
Against Busan I.Park, however, they were unable to maintain their pristine record especially when the road team surprisingly took the lead and they almost lost the ball game. But once again, Junior Negrao bailed them out with a late goal.
Team Kim Do-hoon continues his masterful job of handling his star players. With other teams now wary of Junior Negrao, I expect players like Yoon Bit-garam and Lee Chung-yong to step up their games.
History
Overall, these two clubs played in 15 matches where Ulsan Hyundai won in 10 while Gwangju FC won only once along with four draws.
Ulsan Hyundai are expected to win because of their recent dominance against Gwangju FC as they’ve won their last nine of their last 10 encounters. These two teams last met in the 2017 season.
Gwangju’s last win against Ulsan dates back to 2015 where Kim Ho-nam led them to their only victory.
Betting Tip
Gwangju FC vs Ulsan Hyundai | Ulsan Hyundai Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 2.29 | |

Scoring goals is the utmost priority in the game of football. And since Gwangju FC are struggling to show any attacking prowess so far this term, it will be difficult to imagine them upsetting one of the league’s title contenders.
Ulsan Hyundai have several players who can generate a lot of K-League 2020 highlights, so this game is expected to be a blowout in favour of the road team.
The Yellows still have hope, however, in their next few matches as they will try to grab their first points against the likes of Suwon Bluewings, Busan I.Park, and Incheon United.
