FC Seoul vs Gangwon FC
We are back for more K-League action football fans! And this time around we will get to feature an interesting matchup over at the Seoul World Cup Stadium this Friday evening.
It will FC Seoul and Gangwon FC – two teams who are looking to turn their fortunes as the month of August is underway. This month will be big considering we’re already halfway in the 2020 campaign.
Gangwon FC are the better team on paper as of the moment given that they are currently at the sixth spot at the table with 16 points.
Sitting at the second to the last spot are FC Seoul, who are trailing three points behind their visitors. They have 13 points and they are level with the 10th-seeded club in the Suwon Bluewings.
These two clubs will have varying agendas coming into this weekend. FC Seoul will be seeking for home comfort in order to improve their situation, whereas Gangwon FC are still trying hard as ever to not get stuck in the middle.
Gangwon FC have gotten the better of FC Seoul in their previous encounters, so it looks like that the pressure is on for the home club.
Can FC Seoul snap out of their funk? Or will Gangwon FC continue to assert their dominance over their counterparts on the road?
Talking Points
FC Seoul down but not out
The Choi Yong-soo-managed squad may not have much K-League 2020 results to write home about, but they still have more chances in order to avoid any fears of being relegated by season’s end.
They were on a three-game losing streak towards the end of July and those losses came in ugly fashion.
FC Seoul’s defence were putrid against the likes of Busan I’Park, Pohang Steelers, and the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, as they’ve given up eight goals total in those contests.
What’s more worrying about it is in turn, they’ve only mustered one goal at the time and that was courtesy of one of their top young players in Young Wook-cho.
However, in just two days ago, they won in a hard fought match against Seongnam FC as Yun Ju-tae scored a brace.
With their roster lacking depth, FC Seoul will be waiting for Ki Sung-yeung to join their team. The 31-year-old midfielder offers a ton of quality and experience especially given his 11 years playing top-level football in Europe.
Gangwon FC finding some answers
The Kodiaks have yet to win a game in over 20 days, and their team manager in Kim Byung-soo will be coming into this game in search for some answers.
And now that they are eight points adrift for the fifth spot of the table, Gangwon FC are in danger of slipping down to a few spots if they can’t get their act right.
Gangwon FC almost lost their previous match against Sangju Sangmu if it weren’t for a late equaliser from Kim Ji-hyeon. But other than that, the Kodiaks looked fatigued late and out of it versus the military men.
Shin Se-gye was even booked for a red card late and that will hurt their defencive depth for this upcoming game.
Kim Byung-soo and his men are hopeful that winning against a cellar dwelling club will cure their ills.
History
FC Seoul and Gangwon FC have played each other 24 times.
Surprisingly, FC Seoul own the upper hand in the head-to-heads with 12 victories, while Gangwon FC won in seven occasions along with five draws.
However, the Kodiaks should come in as the favourites given on how they’ve dominated FC Seoul in recent times.
In their last two matches, Gangwon FC compiled six goals while only conceding three goals. Prior to 2019, these two had back-to-back draws with scorelines of 2-2 and 0-0.
Betting Tip
FC Seoul vs Gangwon FC | Over 2.50 @ 1.75 | |
August 7, 19:00 (GMT+8) |
Upon checking the latest K-League 2020 odds, this match might be closer than one would expect despite their respective places in the K-League standings.
Gangwon FC are priced slightly higher at 2.39, while FC Seoul are not far behind at 2.76 and a draw is at 3.35 in the 1×2 market.
But while a win for either side isn’t guaranteed, there is a common theme whenever these two meet lately.
Goals are aplenty especially in their recent matches, so I would recommend going for Over 2.50 @ 1.75. You can also go for Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.89 or even Total Goal 4-6 @ 1.98 too.
