We have a classic Coppa Italia final to look forward to as the holders Juventus are set to face sleeping giants, Milan.
The Bianconeri are aiming for a fourth successive Coppa triumph and are the betting websites’ favourites to do just that after a comfortable win over Atalanta. Meanwhile, there was live betting tension in Rome as Milan went through on penalties. And, despite the likely betting odds, the Rossoneri will be well up for the final battle.
Juventus 1-0 (2-0 on agg.) Atalanta
A second-half penalty converted by Miralem Pjanic was enough to send Juventus through to another Coppa final. After Gonzalo Higuain had given Juventus a first-leg advantage, it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Atalanta, though the visitors were still in it after a goalless first half.
Atalanta’s Alejandro Gomez agonisingly hit the woodwork soon after the break and it was the closest the underdogs came to causing an upset. And when Gianluca Mancini fouled Blaise Matuidi in the box, Pjanic fired home the decisive penalty.
Lazio 0-0 (0-0 on agg., 4-5 on pens) AC Milan
After a goalless first leg between two in-form sides, this was always going to be a well-contested game; and so it proved in the first half. Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved well from Ciro Immobile, then almost let the Lazio hitman in soon after. At the other end, Thomas Strakosha made a brilliant double save to deny Suso and Patrick Cutrone. But the second half saw little goalmouth action to complete 180 minutes without a goal.
In extra time, Nikola Kalinic had a golden opportunity to win the tie with minutes remaining but blazed horribly over.
And so to penalties; and after poor Luiz Felipe skied his effort towards Row Z, it was Lazio fan Alessio Romagnoli who fired Milan into the final.
