Manchester City 3-0 Arsenal
He’s on his way! Pep Guardiola finally won his first title at Manchester City as his team swept Arsenal away in the Carabao Cup Final.
Betting websites are concentrating on the race for second place in the Premier League as the betting odds on City winning that competition have fallen through the floor! But it’s always good to get the first trophy in the cabinet and Pep’s boys did it in some style.
There’s not much to say about Arsenal who didn’t turn up, but Manchester don’t care about that.
We hoped to see the most beautiful of football games but in a first half which lacked any real fluency it was a route one goal that broke the deadlock. A long ball pumped down field should be meat and drink to a Premier League centre back but Shkodran Mustafi was easily nudged away by Sergio Aguero and City’s hit man finished brilliantly, lobbing over David Ospina and into the net.
With the threat of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang there, at 0-1 the Gunners were always in the game but it was Mr Man City, Vincent Kompany, who took it away from them. First he won a corner with a clever piece of play and then when Ilkay Gundogan fired goal-wards Kompany brilliantly diverted the ball home to spark wild celebration from the Sky Blue end of Wembley.
And then another big name of the recent City glory years made it three when David Silva finished a trademark move with a crisp finish into the corner. City celebrated as the Arsenal end began to empty.
It’s Pep’s day…the first of many?
