Juventus 2-0 Lazio
One down, two to go. The Bianconeri stormed to the first third of an historic treble with a convincing Coppa Italia win at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
And with the league title within reach this weekend, betting odds on the domestic double are tight. Max Allegri’s team loves the biggest football games, and if the league is pocketed soon, attention will switch to the Champions League final where the Old Lady faces Real Madrid.
Italian football betting pundits who predicted Juve would overcome an in-form Lazio side were proved right in the first 25 minutes as the favourites hit the Romans with a lethal double strike.
Two defenders undid the Lazio rearguard, first Dani Alves volleyed home sweetly on 12 minutes after Alex Sandro found the full back with a beautiful pass. And then when defensive rock Leonardo Bonucci met Sandro’s corner unmarked, he finished with all the cool of a top striker to make it two.
Juve had more chances, while Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio tried to get back in the game, Keita hitting a post and Ciro Immobile heading a good chance wide.
Lazio continued to threaten in the second half; Keita shot wide from a dangerous position, Immobile tested Neto in the Juve goal and the Keita blasted over when he should have side footed home. If you don’t take your chances, recovering from a two goal deficit against this formidable Juventus team is impossible. The Bianconeri was never at its best in the second half and while Gonzalo Higuain worked for openings up front, they were happy to see the game out, with Neto in commanding form.
When Alves found Higuain, as the clock ran down, Juve’s leading scorer almost made it three…but two was always going to be enough.
Next stop for Juventus it’s Crotone, and then the big one.
