Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Sevilla FC
We’re into the last eight of the Europa League folks, and we have a mouth-watering tie- of-the-round to look forward to on Tuesday night.
It’s Wolves vs Sevilla at the MSV Arena in Duisburg and it is a clash between two of the most impressive sides in the competition. But the Premier League team has looked tired in recent games, while Los Sevillanos go from strength to strength.
The big question is, can Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves go again after a domestic league season which has drained some of his players and a real slog to beat Olympiakos in the Round of 16?
Sevilla made short work of Roma in their single leg Round of 16 tie and this is a step up for the Wolves. The Premier League side is certainly capable but do they have the legs?
Talking Points
Nuno must use his squad
Wolves finished seventh in the Premier League after a gruelling season in which they were chasing Champions League football until the last couple of games.
Defeat to Chelsea on the final day left them on 59 points, which is an impressive haul but short of the mark they were aiming for.
In the first leg of their Round of 16 tie against Olympiakos, the Wolves laboured in Athens – drawing 1-1 despite the Greeks being reduced to ten men for the
At Molineux last week in a game dominated by Olympiakos for long periods, Wolves rode heir luck and Nuno’s team looked a little jaded. Only a man-of-the-match performance from goal-keeper Rui Patricio kept out the Greece Super League champions.
Top scorer Raul Jimenez did his job early in the game by stroking home a penalty after winger Daniel Podence had been brought down by the Olympiakos keeper. Podence looked very lively in the first half, but like much of the team, faded a little in the second half.
Ever-present defender Conor Coady has started 56 games this season and Jimenez, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves are not far behind.
So Nuno may choose to rest some weary legs and there could be starts for Diogo Jota, who has six goals in the competition, alongside Leander Dendoncker. Meanwhile, left back Jonny was injured against Olympiakos and is likely to be replaced by Ruben Vinagre.
Sevilla relaxed and determined
Unlike the Wolves, Los Sevillanos are looking fresh and ready for more action.
They finished strongly in La Liga to qualify for the Champions League, winning five of their last six matches, and blew Roma away in an explosive first 45 minutes.
32-year-old midfield enforcer Ever Banega has lost none of his all-action game, and he set up Youssef En-Nesryi for a goal as Sevilla dominated the Romans with seven shots on target to one.
Los Sevillanos are now unbeaten in 18 games in all competitions and head coach Julen Lopetegui has no new injury worries.
History
This will be the first match between Wolves and the five-time winners of the Europa League, so we’ll look to recent form to guide us.
While Sevilla finished their season strongly, Wolves rather stumbled over the line with a win, a draw and a defeat in the last three games.
And although the Premier side has won 12 of its 16 Europa League games, it didn’t find life easy in the Round of 16.

The latest Wolves vs Sevilla betting odds here at SBOBET back Los Sevillanos to come out on top at 2.30 with Wolves available at odds of 3.30 with the draw at 3.40.
The Spanish side has the form, but Wolves can be hard to break down so I’m backing a tight affair.
In all competitions, the Wolves have seen under 2.50 goals in 11 of their last 12 games, while Sevilla are strong in defence as they’ve conceded just five goals in 12 games since the restart – keeping six clean sheets in the last seven games.
The prize is a semifinal tie against the winner of the quarterfinal between Manchester Unted and Copehagen. The Red Devils had a superb finish to the season leaving the Wolves, among others, in their wake as they stormed into the 2020/21 Champions League.
Meanwhile, FC Copenhagen were struggling to retain their Danish Superliga title, sitting in second place and nine points off the lead when the league was suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
In the meantime, we’ll be back on Tuesday with all the Wolves vs Sevilla highlights!
