The Bundesliga’s Elite Goal Getters

We all love a goal scorer; the guy who sets the pulses racing and blows the roof off the stadium as his pile driver or bullet header flies into the net. There’s nothing better!

Before the spread of Coronavirus halted the world’s football leagues the 2019/20 Bundesliga was shaping up to be one of the most exciting campaigns in recent years. FC Bayern was just starting to open up a gap and the reigning champions have two in-form strikers who currently make the top five goal scorers in the league.

But they are not alone, so let’s take a look at their top two hit men and those busting the nets for their rivals.

5: Serge Gnabry – FC Bayern (11)

There are six players on 11 goals; so Gnabry makes the list courtesy of his nine assists, which make him the all-round striker and a great partner to have upfront. The former Arsenal man has burst onto the international scene, scoring 13 goals in 13 appearances for Germany and he has a good ratio in the Bundesliga.

His goals have come at a rate of one every 148 minutes and he has a shot accuracy of 48 per cent, opening the scoring when Bayern handed out a recent 0-6 hammering to Hoffenheim

4: Robin Quaison – FSV Mainz (12)

Scoring a goal every 166 minutes with a shot accuracy of 57 per cent has made Quaison the main man for struggling Mainz this season.

Four of the five strikers on this list play for the top three sides in the Bundesliga table, with Quaison the sole outsider. Mainz 05 is in a relegation battle, sitting in 15th place and just four points above the relegation play-off spot, currently occupied by Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The Swedish striker opened the scoring in a crucial victory over bottom club SC Paderborn 07, just before the postponement of the campaign, and Mainz fans hope his goals will be enough to keep them in the top flight.

3: Jadon Sancho – Borussia Dortmund (14)

Sancho makes more goals than he scores, with an impressive tally of 15 assists, and only

FC Bayern’s Thomas Muller has made mores assists with 16. But he also knows where the net is and, at a goal every 129 minutes with 62 per cent shots on target, no wonder he has become such a hot property in his second season in Dortmund.

Reports in the UK suggest he’s a summer target for Manchester United but the Red Devils will have to fight off some competition if they are to land the England starlet.

Just before the break he set up a goal for Achraf Hakimi and also hit the post in an all-action performance as BVB beat Borussia Monchengladbach in a top of the table clash.

RB Leipzig's Timo Werner attempted the most shots (35) in Bundesliga this season following a ball carry in open play
Timo Werner has 28 goal involvements in 21 Bundesliga games this season

2: Timo Werner – Red Bull Leipzig (21)

Leipzig’s 24-year old striker has been one of the big Bundesliga 2020 news stories and he looks destined for a long and successful career at domestic and international level. Werner has time on his side and plenty of energy, he’s completed 653 sprints so far this term and, along with inspirational head coach Julien Nagelsmann, he is one of the big reasons Red Bull Leipzig have been transformed into genuine title contenders.

With 21 goals from 24 games and seven assists, it’s no wonder Werner has attracted interest from the biggest clubs, including European Champions Liverpool.

1: Robert Lewandowski – FC Bayern (25)

Here in the SBOBET football team we recently took a look at the five most surprising sides in the Bundesliga this season, and you just can’t put FC Bayern on that list. Lewandowski is one compelling reason why not because the Poland scoring machine does the business for the Bavarians year after year.

Since his switch from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 he has scored 153 goals in 182 appearances for Bayern as they lift the league on an annual basis.

This season the lethal Pole has rained down a huge 92 shots on opposition goalkeepers, 60 per cent of them on target and he’s scored a goal every 82 minutes spent on the pitch; and that’s why he’s the leading foreign goal scorer in the history of the competition as well as being Poland’s top scorer of all time.

We’re sure to be back with more Bundesliga 2020 betting tips over the next few weeks, and the form of these five sharp shooters could decide where their club’s fortunes lie at either end of the table.
