The 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign is scheduled to start in just three weeks when champions Bayern Munich kick off with a visit to Eintracht Frankfurt.
And there is still plenty of uncertainty around who will line up for Die Bayern as they begin their title defence in Frankfurt, and they have a SuperCup match against RB Leipzig to prepare for a week earlier.
From the final whistle of the last campaign, the Bundesliga 2022 news has been dominated by the plight of Bayern’s star striker Robert Lewandowski, who announced his intention to depart immediately but his proposed move to Barcelona is still in the balance.
And now there may be more news of outgoings in the champions’ camp as it seems Leroy Sane’s agent has offered the winger’s services to Real Madrid.
News reports in the Spanish capital have suggested the arrival of Sadio Mane in Munich has cast some doubt over the former Manchester City player’s future after he made just 22 starts for Bayern last season. The 26-year-old moved to Munich in 2020 for a fee of £45-M after making his name at the Etihad, but Sane’s contract may be cut short if the two clubs can strike a deal.
Back to Lewandowski. Time is running out for the Pole and his Spanish suitors. Lewy is in training with his Bundesliga colleagues while the two clubs try to come to an arrangement.
Bayern are looking for something in the region of €50-M for the 33-year-old, but the Catalans want to pay significantly less. And with Paris Saint-Germain always likely to make a move for a big player, the situation is precarious at least.
According to the pre-season Bundesliga 2022 betting odds, Borussia Dortmund are second favourites for the title and they have been active in the market, bringing in a new striker to replace Erling Haaland in the shape of Sebastian Haller and a central defencive partnership of Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Sule.
20-year-old attacker Karim Adeyemi has also arrived from RB Salzburg so head coach Edin Terzic is making room in his squad by telling four players they are free to leave.
Creative duo Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt have been told they can find new clubs, while current centre-back Manuel Akanji is happy to leave Dortmund.
The fourth man to be told he isn’t in BVB’s plans is Nico Schulz and reports have emerged that the Germany wing-back will not be joining BVB in the club’s pre-season in Switzerland.
In other news, Juventus are reported to be interested in Eintracht’s highly-rated centre-back Evan Ndicka. The French star impressed as a central defender, who can also play at left back, during Frankfurt’s successful Europa League campaign and he scored four goals and made four assists in 32 league games for the Eagles.
Kaiserslauten back in Bundesliga 2
Two-time Bundesliga champions FC Kaiserslautern are back in the second tier and will kick off their campaign on Friday 15th July in an eye-catching tie against Hannover 96.
Having secured promotion back to the Bundesliga 2, FC Kaiserslautern have a great chance of opening their campaign with a win at SBOTOP odds of 2.58, while their visitors are ever so slightly lower at a price of 2.56.
Hannover have a good record against these opponents, winning 10 of the last 14 meetings, losing three, and drawing one. But they will face a hostile reception from fans at the 50,000 capacity Fritz- Walter Stadion.
In the third division, Kaiserslautern averaged over 47,000 fans for their final three games and the sleeping giants will fancy their chances of challenging for back-to-back promotions.
The Red Devils were a yo-yo club between the top two divisions in the noughties before sliding down to the third tier, five years after missing out in the 2013 play-offs.
Their fans believe they belong in the top-flight, but opening day opponent Hannover is another proud club and the visitors will provide stiff opposition on Friday night.
The smart money may be on a draw at a price of 3.20.
Kaiserslautern are still ranked as Germany’s ninth-most successful club in history and the second division is one of the best supported leagues in world football, so the atmosphere will be bouncing at the Fritz-Walter Stadion for the entire campaign.
And elsewhere in Bundesliga 2, there will be big matches with electric atmospheres. The average capacity across the 18 grounds is 29,251, slightly down from last season following the promotions of Schalke and Werder Bremen. Make no mistake about it, Bundesliga 2 is big business and great entertainment with Kaiserlautern a welcome addition
