Bundesliga: Top Two Shootout in Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich

First meets second in the Bundesliga clash of the weekend when FC Bayern head to Leverkusen to take on Die Werkself.

The two teams are locked on 16 points from seven games with five wins, one draw, and a defeat each. Both have conceded seven goals but they are separated courtesy of the fact that Die Bayern’s strikers have hammered in 24 goals compared to Bayer’s 20.

With Borussia Dortmund in hot pursuit just a point behind and eyeing the top spot, should this game result in a draw or a home win then we will have a new league leader.

Talking Points

Seoane is a great match for Leverkusen

Will Gerardo Seoane and his squad get good Bundesliga results against their strong opponents Bayern Munich?
Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane gestures on the sideline during their Champions League match against Celtic

Switzerland born manager Gerardo Seoane has made a great start at Leverkusen after three successful seasons at Young Boys and the early signs suggest he is more than capable of improving on Bayer’s sixth-placed finish last term.

In almost four seasons in management, the ambitious 42-year old has a 65-per cent win percentage and has started with an 80-per cent win record at Bayer in all competitions.

And Seoane’s honeymoon doesn’t show any signs of ending anytime soon. The hosts come into this game full of confidence after back to back 4-0 victories against Scottish side Celtic in the Europa League and then away to Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga.

They are on a run of five straight victories with only one loss in the last 11 in all competitions, which was a thrilling 3-4 defeat to title rivals Borussia Dortmund.

18-year-old sensation Florian Wirtz has had an unbelievable start to the campaign by scoring four goals and making four assists, and the attacking midfielder could be the next big star to come out of Leverkusen following the emergence of Kai Havertz – who earned a move to Champions League winners Chelsea.

With Moussa Diaby on one side of Wirtz  and Amine Adli on the other, there is plenty of trickery and creativity in the three behind 25-year-old striker Patrik Schick, who has six goals.

Only Robert Lewandowski and Erling Braut Haaland have more each with seven and the Czech hitman is continuing his electric form from Euro 2020.

The very latest Bundesliga 2021 betting odds here at SBOTOP are offering a price of 22.00 on Die Werkself to win a first top-flight title. But if they can beat the Bavarians, expect that figure to drop.

Bayern Munich aiming to bounce back

At odds of 1.11 to retain their domestic crown, nobody in Munich really expects to give up the title and of course nothing is won or lost in the autumn.

But head coach Julian Nagelsmann is under pressure to succeed and he will be under no illusions that there are plenty of suitors keen to take the Bavarians’ place.

Bayern were fully expected to beat Eintracht Frankfurt last time out but they slipped up, and a surprising 1-2 home defeat has opened the door to their rivals.

That defeat ended a run of nine straight victories and 10 unbeaten, and Lewandowski and co. will be keen to bounce back quickly against another of their closest rivals.

With seven goals already, Lewandowski is in top goalscoring form and he too has a threesome in support who are full of goals and creativity.

With one of the most prolific assist makers in German football in Thomas Muller flanked by Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry, there will be plenty of ammunition for the lethal Pole.

Former Manchester City star Sane is finally showing how good he can be, making four assists already this season.

History

Bayer are five-time runners-up in the Bundesliga all within the last 25 years and they have become established as strong domestic and European side. But a win over the 31-time Bundesliga champions will always be special.

With 42 wins to 13 in all competitions since 1993, the Bavarians have had a firm grip on the head-to-head encounters. They’ve won the last four, most recently a 2-0 home win in April and Leverkusen won the two before that both in 2019.

In terms of recent results, the two teams can’t be separated with five wins and a defeat from the last six.

Betting Tip

??
Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich Double Chance Bayer Leverkusen/Draw @ 2.23
October 17, 21:30 (GMT+8)

At 4.45 to win and 4.26 to draw the Leverkusen fans have plenty of choice with the double chance of Home Win/Draw also odds against.

I think this will be a hard-fought match and a good watch for the neutrals. I am leaning towards a draw and a half-time/full-time outcome of Home/Draw is a long shot option at odds of 14.98.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
