It’s hard to blame fans whenever they think that Bayern Munich are singlehandedly destroying any semblance of competition here in the Bundesliga.
The Bavarian giants pulled off a major heist as they were able to, not only get the top players, but also the head coach from one of their main rivals.
Bayern Munich are relentless in their pursuit for their 10th straight German top-flight trophy and they’ve proven that they’ll stop at absolutely nothing to get it.
In turn, the Bundesliga 2021 odds have swung into their favour even more and it’ll take a miracle for the others to either catch up, let alone dethrone them.
Meanwhile, several Bundesliga stars have moved on to the other leagues but that doesn’t mean that there’ll be a decline in terms of the football quality in Germany.
Without further ado, SBOTOP lists down some of the biggest winners and losers of what was one of the craziest transfer windows in recent memory.
Loser: RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig were supposed to be the next powerhouse in the Bundesliga that could rival Bayern Munich in years to come. However, their recent transactions make it far from reality.
This summer alone, the Red Bulls lost their top players in Marcel Sabitzer, Dayot Upamecano, and Ibrahima Konate. And what hurts even more is that their architect in Julian Nagelsmann made his move to join their nemesis in Bavaria after he steered them to unprecedented success in recent years.
As a result, the Jesse Marsch era is off to a shaky start with mixed Bundesliga 2021 results, and they’ll face Bayern Munich next once club football returns.
The Red Bulls tried to compensate by bringing in Angelino, Benjamin Heinrichs, Ilaix Moriba, and Andre Silva. But compared to the ones that they’ve lost, their summer transfer window is a big minus.
These head scratching moves make us wonder on whether RB Leipzig are in it for the money or for the competition, and so far it has been looking like the former.
Winner: Bayern Munich
The Bavarians already have one of the strongest teams in Europe and they just got even better thanks to their deep pockets.
Losing David Alaba to Real Madrid via free transfer is a blow for them but letting him go appears to be a shrewd move since they refused to be held hostage by his demands, and it is also the case for Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez.
The additions of Sabitzer, Upamecano, and Nagelsmann have put them in great position to challenge for the Champions League once more. However, their biggest achievement this summer was not letting go of Robert Lewandowski.
Robert Lewandowski was sought after by Chelsea, but the Pole decided to stay in Bavaria and the Blues eventually moved on to sign Romelu Lukaku.
As expected, they have yet to lose this term with two wins and one draw. And if for some reason Bayern Munich won’t win this season’s Bundesliga title, then it’ll be considered as an abject failure on their part.
Loser: Borussia Dortmund
BVB are also supposed to be another title challenger in the Bundesliga this term but they’ve also lost several core players.
Jadon Sancho is obviously a huge loss since he went on to join the Red Devils in the Premier League while Thomas Delaney transferred to La Liga to play for Sevilla.
Dortmund, who are known for their excellent youth development program, got back to the basics by bringing in young and unproven additions to bolster their lineup.
Marin Pongracic and Gregor Kobel add fresh legs to their backline while Donyell Malen should help out front to aid the prodigious Erling Haaland.
Marco Rose will have his work cut out for him in trying to make Borussia Dortmund a perennial winner. However, they have yet to establish their identity on the pitch so far.
Winner: VfL Wolfsburg
The Wolves are currently standing atop of the Bundesliga standings and it’s not merely a coincidence especially if you’ll look at their group this term.
After finishing fourth last year, VfL Wolfsburg were wise in keeping most of their core players while reinforcing their depth on both ends of the pitch.
One of the top young defenders in Sebastiaan Bornauw joins from Koln while Lukas Nmecha, Luca Waldschmidt, Maximillian Philipp, and Dodi Lukebakio are four dangerous players behind main striker Wout Weghorst.
Staying in Champions League football is the main objective for the Wolves this term. They are much better off compared to last season, and that alone is enough for us to consider them one of the big winners in the summer transfer window.
