Bundesliga: The Best of the Rest Jockey to Challenge FC Bayern

After watching Bayern stroll away with the 2020 Bundesliga title, it’s down to the chasing pack – namely Borussia Dortmund, Monchengladbach, Red Bull Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen to stop the Bavarians of making it nine league titles in a row next season.

With the 2020/21 Bundesliga season set to start on September 18th, there are four weeks to go for these teams to strengthen as the transfer market begins to gather momentum.

The Champions have already made a big statement of intent with the capture of winger Leroy Sane on a five-year deal, and the former Manchester City man will add more pace and trickery to an already frightening attack.

On the return of the Bundesliga back in May, BVB had a realistic chance of winning the league title but there was no way of holding on to FC Bayern’s coattails as Hansi Flick’s team went on a colossal winning streak.

But if they are to challenge again next term, Borussia will hope to keep hold of Jadon Sancho. The winger has been the subject of speculation around a move to Premier League giants Manchester United but Dortmund are still playing hard ball.

There are reports circulating that the Red Devils have reached an agreement with the player, but bosses at the Signal Iduna Park are still playing down the prospects of a deal.

When we post the preseason Bundesliga 2020 betting odds here at SBOBET, we’ll be watching to see which of the chasing pack can keep hold of their prized assets as well as strengthening over the next month.

Super Eagle heading to Leverkusen?

The future of Bayer Leverkusen’s 21-year-old skipper Kai Havertz is still in the balance, with a potential move to Chelsea currently on hold.

The striker dominated the Bundesliga 2020 news in the opening few weeks after lockdown with some scintillating displays for Leverkusen.

And that tempted Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to make his move, having already secured the services of former Red Bull star Timo Werner.

Havertz apparently wants a move to the Premier League. But like BVB, Leverkusen are refusing to budge in their resolve to keep their player or extract maximum value. They are sticking to their 100-M Euros asking price and Chelsea are still some way away from that.

Head coach Peter Bosz is preparing for all eventualities and Bayer are the latest club to be linked with 22-year-old Nigerian striker Emmanuel Dennis.

If Havertz is to depart, the Club Brugge star would be a good replacement and Bosz has highlighted him as their number one target.

Serie A team Napoli and Premier League new boys Leeds United are both interested. But if Bayer are to pocket 100-M Euros, then they will be able to blow those two rivals out of the water.

The Belgian club has accepted that the highly sought after Super Eagle will be on his way to one of Europe’s top leagues and he could be available for a fee of around £25-M Euros.

They have had a good run with the young striker, winning two Belgian First Division titles since he arrived in Club Brugge.

Chelsea are still some 20-M Euros short of the Havertz asking price though, so Dennis might have to wait a while to learn his 2020/21 destination.

Leverkusen are also reported to be in the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Serge Aurier.

The Ivory Coast star has made 58 appearances for Spurs in three seasons but has been a little erratic and boss Jose Mourinho wants players he can rely on at the back.

At 27 years of age, Aurier could be a good fit for attack-minded Leverkusen.

Gladbach and Wolfsburg shoring up their attack

Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach are reported to be interested in the £20-M rated Liverpool midfielder Marko Grijic.

The Serbian star has spent the last two seasons on loan with Hertha Berlin and has impressed enough to attract the attention of Die Fohlen boss Marco Rose as his team embarks on a Champions League adventure next season.

On the other hand, Europa League qualifiers Wolfsburg are said to be watching Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez closely.

He has scored 16 goals for Spanish Segunda Division side Almeria prompting Die Wolfe to make an approach. But they’ll have to fight off interest from Premier League side Brighton, having matched the Seagull’s offer of 20-M Euros for the 21-year-old.

Another Premier League side is trawling the Bundesliga for talent with Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa tracking the progress of SC Freiburg centre-back Robin Koch.

At 6-foot-3, the German international would be a big asset to Leeds. However, they will have to shell out 20-M Euros.
