Of course, their defence still leaves much to be desired as the scoreline suggests, but their offence was potent enough to counter even Indiana’s late fourth-quarter rally.
Memphis Grizzlies 82-96 San Antonio Spurs
Although there aren’t high expectations on Memphis’ offence, the same can’t be said about their defence which was “supposedly” their saving grace against San Antonio. Nonetheless, Game 2 showed how big the gap in quality is between these two Southwest teams.
Sure enough, the Grizz played way better on the defensive end than they did in Game 1, but they still weren’t able to find an answer for Kawhi Leonard who punished them again with 37 points on 64.3 percent shooting – he made 32 on 78.6 field goal percentage the last time out.
It also didn’t help the Grizzlies that they gave the Spurs too many opportunities – 32 to be exact – on the charity stripe. Hence, if that was their strategy to throw Leonard off his rhythm, it simply didn’t work.
The game though wasn’t dull as Memphis roared back in the final quarter to cut the deficit to just four despite trailing by as much as 26 points.
