Basketball is slowly making a comeback especially when NBA commissioner Adam Silver gave out a new proposal to get the players back into training.
For sure avid basketball fans are excited to see our favourite athletes back in action to pick up where they left off and provide us with more NBA 2020 highlights.
But no one could be more excited than the players themselves since most of them were cooped up at home over the last few weeks. While all of them either gave back to charity or pursued other hobbies and interests, it’s clear that getting back to play the game we all love remains their main priority.
As we continue for these players to get back into action, allow SBOBET to give you a quick roundup of our latest NBA updates.
Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant looking good in Brooklyn
With this season being suspended for the mean time, perhaps this is a blessing in disguise for the Brooklyn Nets as they continue to wait for their star duo to recover from their respective injuries.
As of this writing, the Nets hold a 30-34 win-loss card – which is good for the seventh spot at the Eastern Conference. And one can argue that they’ll be much higher than that if Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant were at full strength.
Kyrie Irving missed 26 games earlier this season due to a shoulder injury, but he returned to action last January. However, after a few games, the mercurial point guard was ruled out for the rest of the season since he underwent surgery for his injured shoulder.
On the other hand, Kevin Durant suffered an Achilles injury in last year’s Finals playing for the Golden State Warriors and hasn’t played since.
On paper, Irving and Durant would form a lethal combo that can make the Nets instant contenders in the Eastern Conference, according to our NBA 2020 odds. And with the two slowly getting their rhythm back, the rest of the league would need to better watch out next season.
“When you’ve got enough invested in a player like Kevin, we’re never going to push him to come back. When the timing is right, he’ll be 100-per cent when he gets on the court,” said Nets GM Sean Marks.
“I can tell you this though – before the pandemic, he looked like Kevin Durant and that’s a good thing,” he added.
“I can’t wait to be back out there destroying people,” said Kyrie Irving via his Instagram account.
Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert turn their focus to the task at hand
There were several reports before that talked about the apparent rift between Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert especially when both of them tested positive for COVID-19 last March that triggered the suspension of the season.
Rudy Gobert issued a public apology for his reckless behavior few weeks ago while Donovan Mitchell publicly acknowledged that he was upset with his All-Star teammate during an appearance to ABC’s “Good Morning America”.
Since the league suspended the season, neither of them talked to each other and there were trade rumours floating around which indicated that one of them may be dealt to another team sooner or later.
However, it looks like that the Jazz aren’t entertaining any possible offers as team boss Dennis Lindsey expressed his optimism about the continued partnership of his All-Star duo.
“Look, the COVID-19 night of March 11 was really unprecedented. It brought a microscope to our team, and we get it. With that said, we’re very pleased with the collective makeup of our group, Donovan and Rudy in particular,” said Lindsey during a recent conference call.
“We look forward to moving forward. They’ve said their piece to each other. They’ve both visited at the ownership level, at management level, at the coaches level, at the players level with each other,” he added.
Gobert and Mitchell experienced a lot success this season. Both of them made their first-ever All-Star appearances as they posted career-best averages across the board.
Rudy Gobert averaged 15.1 points, a career-high 13.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks while Donovan Mitchell posted norms of 24.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.
Utah are currently fourth in the Western Conference standings with a 41-23 record. Gobert and Mitchell have made it to the playoffs in all of their three seasons together so far.
