Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City set down another mark of intent this weekend with a crucial away win at the home of the champions, Chelsea.
The Sky Blues have really set themselves up as the team to beat after winning this game. Pre-match betting tips couldn’t decide on the outcome and so those are massive three points.
Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City
Antonio Conte’s Blues have now lost two of their four home league football games and that is not the form of Premier League champions. But there’s not much anyone can do to combat the brilliance of Kevin de Bruyne and it was the Belgian who sealed the victory with a fabulous strike.
Manchester United 4-0 Crystal palace
Once derided as a poor signing by Red Devils’ fans, Marouane Fellaini is now the embodiment of Jose Mourinho’s United and he used his physical strength and skill to dominate Palace, scoring twice to inspire a win which places United level on points with City. The Eagles are yet to take off, bottom with no points and no goals.
Huddersfield Town 0-4 Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane scored twice as Spurs blew the Terriers away with a devastating opening spell. The visitors were three ahead in 23 minutes as Kane, with two, and Ben Davies found the net. Dele Alli still looks out of sorts and was booked for simulation.
Arsenal 2-0 Brighton & Hove Albion
The Gunners are now unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions after a comfortable home win against the Seagulls. Nacho Monreal put the hosts ahead and Alex Iwobi made the points safe in the second period.
Everton 0-1 Burnley
Ronald Koeman is still struggling to get his team to play without fear and they were distinctly edgy after Jeff Hendrick put the Burnley ahead, finishing a flowing move by the visitors. Burnley keeper Nick Pope didn’t have much to do as the Clarets held on comfortably.
West Bromwich Albion 2-2 Watford
A 94th-minute Richarleson header grabbed a surprise point for Marco Silva’s Hornets after the Baggies had gone 2-0 up, thanks to Jonny Evans and Salomon Rondon. Abdoulaye Doucoure pulled one back to set up Richarleson’s dramatic finale.
Stoke City 2-1 Southampton
Peter Crouch proved he’s still got what it takes, climbing off the bench to poke home a late winner for Stoke in a tough battle with the Saints. Mame Biram Diouf’s headed opener was cancelled out by Maya Yoshida, before Crouch pounced for the winner. Stoke’s Saido Berahinho hasn’t scored for 18 months and missed another penalty.
West Ham United 1-0 Swansea City
The Hammers climbed out of the relegation zone and dumped Swansea in it, thanks to a late winner from Diafra Sakho. It was a bit hard on the Swans who had defended stoutly, but a win’s a win and West Ham have now taken seven points from the last four games.
Bournemouth 0-0 Leicester City
Some Cherries’ fans left the game early and some Foxes are already calling for Craig Shakespeare’s head after this goalless slugfest. Leicester aren’t known for it’s loyalty to managers but Bournemouth is. Either way, these teams need to pick up form soon or it could be a difficult season.
