The big stage is set for an exciting fight!

After a long string of football games, two clubs remain standing.

The DFB Pokal finally has their two main stars billed and ready to compete. The final is still a month away, but it’s never too early for sports betting fans to look at what transgressed so far and imagine how the finals would play out. Speculating about the future result based on previous performances is the very essence of football prediction, after all.

Borussia Monchengladbach 1-1 (6-7 on pens) Eintracht Frankfurt

The first semi-final match was a gut-wrenching one, if I do say so myself.

Their Bundesliga matches both ended in scoreless draws, so many were coming into this game expecting a penalty shootout finish. What they didn’t count on was the beautiful attacking football displayed by both sides in the first half. Taleb Tawatha and Jonas Hofman both shot beautiful first-touch goals to end the game 1-1.

The penalties displayed some of the most intense football the Borussia-Park has seen in a while. Both sides were easily slotting their penalties past the opposing keepers until Yann Sommer and Lukas Hradecky produced brilliant saves, making the last moments a battle of the keepers. Hradecky put the pressure on Sommer with a second save and Branimir Hrgota got them through with the winning pen.

Bayern Munich 2-3 Borussia Dortmund

This clash between the two heated rivals was one filled with controversy, missed chances and a strong statement by Ousmane Dembele.

Both sides were poking each other’s defences in the first ten minutes of the match, with great chances coming out from both sides. Javi Martinez was a key factor for the first two goals: his error led to Marco Reus scoring first for the BVB, and his fantastic header equalised the game ten minutes later.

Mats Hummels ended the first half with a goal against his old club, preempting the attacks Carlo Ancelotti’s lads would launch against Thomas Tuchel’s. It would stay that way until the Ousmane Dembele show started: a beautiful lob assist to Aubameyang and a beautiful strike from just inside the box staked his slice on the title, “World’s Best Young Player”.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Der Klassiker without its share of controversy. A questionable handball could have flipped the game’s story on its head, and Dembele’s dodgy challenge on Xavi Alonso could have awarded another penalty for the Bavarians as well. They also missed countless opportunities when Roman Burki made fatal mistakes.

Regardless of what transpired, we can only be sure of one thing: the next meeting between these two giants will be explosive!
