The betting odds in the Champions League get more interesting as more of Europe’s best clubs bow out of the contest. Expect the games (and the supporters) to get more rabid as we are down to the last eight clubs!
All of these clubs have a shot at winning it all, but only a few are favoured by the football betting gods. Do you think your choice have a decent chance of lifting the trophy? Let’s look at the draw results and find out!
Atletico Madrid vs Leicester
Leicester are an interesting bunch: they are struggling for survival in the Premier League but they are the last English side in the Champions League. They somehow managed to kick Sevilla out with a clean sheet at King Power Stadium.
However, they are up for an uphill struggle when they face off against Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s squad looks a lot better than Leicester’s on paper, with names such as Antoine Griezmann, Andel Correa and Kevin Gameiro ready to pounce on any small mistakes the defence makes.
Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy better pull off something out of their hats if they don’t want their European campaign to end like a Shakespearean tragedy.
Borussia Dortmund vs Monaco
Borussia Dortmund built an impregnable fortress at Signal-Iduna Park, completely showcased in their 4-0 drubbing of Benfica. Meanwhile, Monaco have proven their footballing acumen when they managed to snag three goals at Etihad against one of the most expensive rosters in the world.
This will prove to be an interesting series as both teams have certified firepower (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Radamel Falcao) ready to score for their teams. The XIs that will be fielded and the tactics employed can spell the difference between victory and defeat for these two giants.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid
This is arguably the toughest game to call.
Both of these teams have world-class players that can instantly turn any club to a great one in a snap of a finger. Ronaldo, Lewandowski, Neuer, Bale, and Modric among others playing on the same pitch can send many neutrals to a betting frenzy.
It’s easy to say that Real Madrid would whip them to shape like they did in 2014, but the Bavarians have just as complete a team as theirs. This one should keep us on the edge of our seats.
Juventus vs Barcelona
The Bianconeri facing the Blaugrana is another exciting proposition for many neutrals and punters.
The Old Lady were dauntless as they kept Porto scoreless in their two-match draw; Barcelona gave many football fans a night to remember when they mounted an unbelievable comeback to win over PSG 6-5 on aggregate.
I doubt Juventus will allow such a thing to happen again on their watch, so Luis Enrique and his lads are in for a tough fight with the Serie A champions.
