Bundesliga: Hostilities Await Marco Rose in His Borussia Park Homecoming

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund

The return of a familiar face is going to be the backdrop of the Borussenderby on Saturday as Borussia Monchengladbach host Borussia Dortmund for the sixth matchday of the 2021/22 season.

Marco Rose, who coached Borussia Monchengladbach from 2019 to 2021, is set to make his comeback at Borussia Park to where he should expect a hostile crowd.

Gladbach and Dortmund are miles apart in the Bundesliga standings, which is surprising to say the least. The hosts are in the drop zone at 16th place with only four points while the visitors hold the solo third spot with 12 points.

The home side has a lot of catching up to do if they’d want to keep their European hopes alive, and what better way to do so by getting a win here, especially at their former manager’s expense.

Rose’s return will definitely spark a lot of emotions from fans in this upcoming contest –mostly for the wrong kind — so this is one football match you simply cannot miss.

Talking Points

Gladbach fans are still bitter about Marco Rose

It’s understandable as to why Marco Rose won’t get a warm reception this weekend at Borussia Park.

In his two years there, Rose catapulted Gladbach to great heights with two Champions League berths and it looked like that the Foals are going to contend for the Bundesliga championship sooner than later.

But the former Gladbach manager saw his popularity plummet instantly when he announced in February that he’ll be joining BVB after the end of last season. The team’s morale also dropped in the process and they eventually missed out on European football altogether.

Fortunately for him, he went to a stronger team although he wasn’t immune to experiencing growing pains to start the 2021/22 season with his new club.

The only job he has with Dortmund is to maintain their lethal attack with Erling Haaland at the forefront while maintaining a solid enough backline to contend for a top four spot.

So far he has done the former, but the same can’t be said on the latter as they’ve surrendered 11 goals already.

Dortmund’s seven-goal thriller victory against Leverkusen is the epitome of Rose’s tenure with the Yellow Wall, meaning that there’s going to be room for improvement.

Injuries are hounding Gladbach and BVB

The Bundesliga 2021 updates suggests that both clubs are going to have to dig deep on their bench for this fixture.

Gladbach will continue to miss the services of forward Marcus Thuram since he’s had a torn MCL few months ago.

Defenders Stefan Lainer and Mamadou Doucoure are also ruled out, while winger Jonas Hofmann is listed as a doubt after being absent in their loss to Augsburg last weekend.

Adi Hutter will rely on Monchengladbach key players to register goals against Borussia Dortmund in Bundesliga match
Borussia Monchengladbach manager Adi Hutter walks into the Borussia Park before the match against Bayern Munich.

Adi Hutter will have to rely on Alassane Plea and Lars Stindl to produce goals while they should get a huge boost with Remy Bensebaini’s impending return.

On the other hand, BVB’s injury list keeps on growing at an alarming rate, leaving Marco Rose at a disadvantage.

Dan-Axel Zagadou, Emre Can, Gio Reyna, Julian Brandt, Soumaila Coulibaly, Mateu Morey, Marcel Schmelzer, and Steffen Tigges are not expected to play this weekend, while Nico Schulz is listed as questionable.

History

Borussia Dortmund have been the better overall team in the Borussenderby.

In their 42 competitive encounters, BVB have won in 27 while Gladbach won in 11 along with four draws.

The Foals were the winners in their previous Bundesliga meeting against the Yellow Wall last January, which is their first win over them since 2015.

The said game ended in a 4-2 tally as Nico Elvedi, Ramy Bensebaini, and Marcus Thuram all put in goals to cancel out Erling Haaland’s first half brace.

Months after their January meeting, they locked horns in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final to which BVB won 1-0, thanks to Jadon Sancho’s 66th-minute goal.

Betting Tip

??
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund Borussia Dortmund Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 2.35
September 26, 00:30 (GMT+8)

The Bundesliga 2021 odds have the visitors as the marginal favourites to win this heated affair.

Borussia Dortmund are installed at 1.81, while Borussia Monchengladbach are priced 3.70 and a draw is at 4.00 in the 1X2 market.

With both clubs struggling to keep a clean sheet, a handful of goals are to be expected from BVB and Gladbach and the result could go either way.

However, we would have to give Borussia Dortmund the edge here because they have someone like Erling Haaland who’s been in superb form in recent weeks. We expect him to be the big difference for these two clubs.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
