Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
The Reds’ next Premier League match will be versus the Eagles this Saturday at Anfield, to which the hosts have their sights set on extending their unbeaten run.
Liverpool are joint leaders with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Everton on top of the table. And a victory here would do them favours as they aim to remind everyone of their championship credentials.
They will face a Crystal Palace squad who just came off from a much-needed win in the last time out, and the visitors are hopeful that they’ll carry enough momentum for this game.
Here at SBOTOP, we had the Eagles take the honours of being dubbed as the team of the week given their brilliant performance against Tottenham last weekend.
Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira would surely love to bring agony to Liverpool fans once more since he’s done it a few times before as an Arsenal player.
But this time, he won’t be out there scoring goals for his club and he’ll have his work cut out for him trying to outcoach a more established tactician in Jurgen Klopp.
Talking Points
Liverpool’s machine is humming along nicely
United and City have been hogging the headlines in recent weeks, but Liverpool are quietly getting it done in the only way they know how – which is to score many goals.
The Reds outlined their title credentials by dealing the Whites their second blowout loss of the 2021/22 season with a 3-0 score, pushing their unbeaten streak to four matches.
Mohamed Salah became the fifth-fastest player to have reached 100 goals in the Premier League with his 20th-minute goal, and he was joined by Fabinho and Sadio Mane in the second half.
The Egyptian international leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists and right behind him are his attacking partners in Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane who have two each.
Another aspect as to why Liverpool remain flawless is because of the return to form by Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk.
Injuries played a huge role to their form and availability last term, and seeing them all back creating havoc for the opponents elicits optimism for Liverpool supporters.
They do have a game against AC Milan in the Champions League later, so a win there should give them a bigger boost for this next contest.
Crystal Palace plan to be giant killers
The Eagles experienced a 180-degree turn after a lacklustre start to 2021/22 season. With a win over Spurs last weekend, team manager Patrick Vieira looks to be on to something here.
Crystal Palace were billed as a relegation candidate and the odds were stacked against them, but everything changed when they sent Tottenham packing with a 3-0 win at Selhurst Park.
When centre-back Japhet Tanganga was sent off near the hour mark, that gave Crystal Palace the numbers advantage for them to exploit.
Wilfried Zaha scored his first goal of the season via penalty and he got support from Odsonne Edouard, who completed his fantastic debut with a brace.
Zaha and Edouard are going to be marked men for Liverpool’s backline, so let’s see if they can do it again this Saturday.
History
Liverpool continue to gather positive Premier League 2021 results since late last season, which provides a gloomy outlook for Crystal Palace.
They are currently undefeated in their last 14 Premier League games since losing to Fulham at Anfield last March, winning 11 and drawing three times.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are firing at will so far this season as they’ve had the most total shots than any other Premier League side with 100. They’re the second side (alongside Chelsea in 2009/10) since 2003/04 to have generated that amount of attempts in their first four games of a campaign.
The Reds have been feasting on the Eagles as they’re on an eight-game winning streak against their visitors. In that span, they’ve scored 24 goals while conceding just five.
Betting Tip
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace | Liverpool Asian Handicap -1.75 @ 1.85 | |
September 18, 22:00 (GMT+8) |
It’s no surprise that Liverpool are the overwhelming favourites to win in this upcoming fixture based on the Premier League 2021 odds.
The Reds are poised for a home victory at 1.22, while the Eagles are priced at 11.00 and chances for a draw are at 6.20 in the 1X2 market.
Crystal Palace can definitely score a goal or two but it’s almost impossible to outshoot a revamped Liverpool squad. Aiming to get a draw here should be the more realistic objective for Patrick Vieira’s men.
The Eagles haven’t had much luck in Anfield recently so we should chalk this up as another win for the Reds.
