Bundesliga: When the Immovable Yellow Wall Meets the Unstoppable Eagles

Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt pick up where we left off as they’ll go head-to-head once more in the Bundesliga.

Looking at the German top-flight standings, the Yellow Wall and the Eagles will be fighting for the fourth Champions League spot, making this a must-win match for both sides.

As of this writing, Eintracht Frankfurt have the upper hand as they have 47 points while Borussia Dortmund have 43. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin are lurking behind them with 40 and 38 points respectively.

Adi Hutter’s side will be eager to widen their gap against BVB, but Edin Terzic’s men will obviously put up some resistance to pull themselves closer.

The Eagles are coming off of a thumping win against Union Berlin, while the Yellow Wall drew level against FC Koln in the last time out.

As international break comes to a close, today, SBOTOP presents to you the match preview of this explosive encounter.

Talking Points

Borussia Dortmund get their key men back

With Erling Haaland probably tired after playing for Norway in the World Cup 2022 qualifiers, Borussia Dortmund can’t afford to be over-reliant on his goalscoring exploits.

Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund have not suffered defeat at the Signal Iduna Park under Edin Terzic (4W, 2D)

It is easy to depend on the Norwegian sensation as he has been playing out of his mind lately, and he is now the second leading scorer behind Robert Lewandowski in the Bundesliga.

Haaland has a prime opportunity to add on to his total this Saturday especially with Robert Lewandowski out for at least four weeks due to a knee injury.

It is unfortunate timing for Lewandowski as he was on his way to break Gerd Muller’s 1972 record for most goals in a single season (40).

Moreover, BVB come into this match confident since they’ll get back some of their key pieces.

Skipper Marco Reus and full-back Raphael Guerreiro are both back in team training after sitting out their last few games.

Reus sat out versus FC Koln due to an ankle bruise while Guerreiro suffered a torn muscle during their DFB-Pokal quarterfinals tiff against Borussia Monchengladbach earlier this month.

Their returns will be big for BVB as they have big fixtures coming up in April, which includes a highly-anticipated Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester City.

Only star winger Jadon Sancho is sure to be sidelined for this contest as he is dealing with an injury of his own, but he should be 100-per cent fit in the next week or so.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s forwards are hitting their stride

Eintracht Frankfurt look to match Borussia Dortmund’s firepower with their wealth of attacking options.

Andre Silva is leading the way for Die Adler as he’s placed third behind Erling Haaland for most goals this term.

Alongside him are fellow strikers Max Kruse and Filip Kostic, and both of them will play a huge role in trying to crack the Yellow Wall.

The three of them are brimming in confidence given what happened in their last Bundesliga match.

Silva and Kruse each scored a brace while Kostic added one for himself during their comprehensive 5-2 win over Union Berlin.

Furthermore, Frankfurt also have another capable goalscorer in Daichi Kamada who can put up notable Bundesliga 2021 highlights.

He was the bright spot for Die Adler in their reverse fixture against BVB, and I am looking for him to re-assert himself this weekend.

History

This Saturday’s contest will be the 50th time that these two squads square off in German professional football.

Borussia Dortmund have the big advantage in the overall head-to-heads with 35 wins and they have yet to lose at the Signal Iduna Park against Eintracht Frankfurt in their last nine fixtures.

Overall, BVB are undefeated in six straight games at home and they’ll be looking to match their streak last term (W14).

Die Adler are without a road win for the last two tries here in the Bundesliga.

Betting Tip

??
Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt Borussia Dortmund Asian Handicap -0.50 @ 1.77
April 3, 21:30 (GMT+8)

The Bundesliga 2021 odds see Borussia Dortmund as the big favourites to win in this contest.

BVB are priced to win at 1.77, whereas Die Adler are behind at 4.10 and chances for a draw are at 3.85 in the 1×2 market.

Both sides will pour in goals and this game can go either way, but my gut feeling is leaning towards a Borussia Dortmund victory for this one.

Edin Terzic’s side have been in strong form playing at the Signal Iduna Park particularly against Frankfurt, and they will look to take advantage of that as they inch closer to securing a Champions League berth.
