La Liga: Granada and Getafe In For An Exciting Showdown

Granada vs Getafe

The long wait is finally over as La Liga is back to pick up where we left off this weekend.

There are a couple of fascinating matches to choose from, especially since we are approaching the conclusion of the 2019/20 season to where Barcelona and Real Madrid are neck-and-neck in the championship race.

Looking at the La Liga table, Barcelona are ahead of two points against Real Madrid while Sevilla, Real Sociedad, and Getafe occupy the rest of the top five positions.

From chasing championship glory to jockeying for coveted positions in the standings, every match matters moving forward so SBOBET fans who love their football should take note of every La Liga 2020 results from here on out.

Today, we’re going to feature the game between Granada and Getafe – two middling teams who are vying for at least a Europa League spot.

Getafe are much better off at the fifth spot with 46 points while Granada have some catching up to do as they are placed ninth with 38 points.

Can El Grana close the gap with a big win at home this weekend? Or will Los Azulones fortify their hold at the fifth spot? Let us examine both of these clubs for this weekend’s contest.

Talking Points

El Grana look to keep it going

Granada will aim to start on a good note come Friday night as they try to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

Prior to the mandated hiatus, Diego Martinez’s side were able to secure two wins and two draws by turning in some of their best work on both ends of the pitch.

In their wins against Real Valladolid and Osasuna, they’ve managed to find the back of the net five times total while keeping a clean sheet as well. They also drew level against Levante and Celta Vigo.

After initially struggling in some stretches during the season, the attacking duo of Darwin Machis and Carlos Fernandez have been on target during their run. All in all, they’ve accounted for 11 goals and six assists so far this term.

It can be remembered that Granada have had a fantastic start earlier this season to where they even ended up second at the table.

But alas, they’ve fallen back to earth when the law of averages have caught up with them and Roberto Soldado struggled in finding his form.

However, fast forward to today, El Grana have momentum on their side coming into this weekend, but they need to back it up with superb play on both ends in order to fully get back on their feet.

Roberto Soldado, who has only two goals and four assists this term, will be needed more than ever to recapture his talismanic form just like how he was playing for Valencia and Tottenham in the Premier League.

Getafe punching above their weight

One of the biggest stories this season is how Getafe defied the La Liga 2020 odds despite their limited resources.

They were indeed a surprising package this season made up of unheralded heroes who have been instrumental to their ongoing campaign so far.

The trio of Angel Rodriguez, Jaime Mata, and Jorge Molina are in dangerous form with the way they were scoring the football. They have accounted for 30 goals and eight assists so far this season.

Jose Bordalas’ side, however, were underwhelming prior to the break upon looking at their recent results.

They were annihilated by Sevilla and lost to Ajax in the Europa League while almost losing to a lower-seeded club in RCD Mallorca and they were held goalless versus Celta Vigo.

In order to stay to where they are, like Granada, an auspicious start will be needed starting this weekend.

Atletico Madrid and Valencia will be creeping behind them as they jostle for the Europa League spots, so football fans should definitely keep an eye on that moving forward.

History

It has been a while since Getafe visited Granada at the Nuevo Los Carmenes. In their most recent meeting, however, Los Azulones dominated the match with a 3-1 tally.

Overall, they’ve faced each other 12 times. Granada won in five while Getafe won in three along with four draws.

With both teams looking evenly matched on paper, expect this weekend’s fixture to be full or fireworks from both sides.

Goals are to be anticipated on this one given how this matchup unfolded over the past few years. Both of them managed to score at least three goals total every fixture, except for the goalless draw that they had two years ago.
