Premier League: Which Spurs Will Turn Up at Anfield?

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur

They’ve made a slow start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, and now Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs head up to Liverpool to take on the league leaders.

Spurs are in seventh place on 12 points, a disappointing return after finishing in the top four last term and reaching the Champions League final. They have a lot to prove against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, and that all makes Premier League: Liverpool vs Spurs the big game of the weekend.

The Liverpool vs Spurs betting odds show how far these two clubs have come in the last two years, with Liverpool in a long way and Spurs not very far!

At the end of the 2017/18 season Spurs finished third while the Reds were fourth. Last term Poch’s team kept pace with Manchester City and Liverpool until Christmas, and this year they are in real danger of losing touch before November arrives.

Talking Points

The Red Juggernaut is still rolling

Liverpool’s winning run had to end sometime and Manchester United fans worldwide will be delighted it happened at Old Trafford.

It could have been worse for the Reds had Adam Lallana not scored a late equaliser. But this is not a flaky group of players who are proven winners over a long period. They don’t always blow teams away but they find a way to win with alarming consistency.

Klopp has a deeper squad than he did two seasons ago, particularly in the middle of the park. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started in Liverpool’s midfield in a 4-1 victory away to Genk in the Champions League in midweek, but I expect Giorginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson to return against Spurs.

Keita and the Ox may offer more in attack alongside Fabinho, but Henderson gives the midfield more balance while Wijnaldum can be equally effective going forward.

The only thing that can stop the juggernaut would be an injury in defence or attack. But so far Klopp has been blessed in that area, and he will expect his team to get back to winning ways on Sunday. Their lead has been cut to six so now is the time to hold their nerve.

Manchester City will be keeping a close eye on the Liverpool vs Spurs updates, that’s for sure.

What’s going on at Spurs?

As we prepare for Round Ten of the Premier League, the Spurs are already 13 points behind the leaders and that could be 16 by the end of the weekend.

Struggling to earn a point at home to Watford was a far cry from the heady days of 2016 when they were favourites to win the league but were pipped to the post by shots of Leicester City.

Spurs have scored fewer goals per game in four successive seasons now, dropping from a peak of 2.3 in 2016/17, and Dele Alli scored his first of the season against Watford.

Captain Harry Kane is key to Spurs’ progress and he has increasingly been linked with a big-money move in search of trophies. If he is to go, then surely it would be to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

He’s up to five goals in the league, the same as Sadio Mane and more than Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino (four and three), but he stands alone at Spurs with no other player scoring more than two.

Coach Pochettino has been linked with a move over the past 12 months, but he insists all is well at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And his team rediscovered its swagger in a Champions League rout on Tuesday, hammering Red Star Belgrade 5-0 with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son both helping themselves to a brace.

History

The Reds have won 27 of the 57 clashes with Spurs, losing 14 and drawing the other 16.

Klopp’s team did the double over Spurs last season — both by a 2-1 scoreline — before beating them in the Champions League final.

The Reds are unbeaten in the league and in the last seven games in all competitions, while the Spurs have lost the last three away games in a row.

Betting Tip

??
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Draw 1×2 @ 3.85
October 28, 00:30 (GMT+8)

The latest SBOBET odds point to a home win at 1.55, with the Spurs way out at 6.00 to pull off a surprise victory.

Spurs bagged a shock draw against Manchester City so I’m going to stick my neck out and back them to do the same at Anfield, on the basis they looked back to their best in the Champions League in midweek.

There will be goals in this game. Both teams have participated in matches yielding three or more goals in three of their last four games and for an alternative bet, you can get odds of 1.87 on over 3.00 goals.

A repeat of the 2-1 result is the most likely scoreline at 7.00, while 1-1 is at 8.25 and 2-2 at 15.50.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
